You should be sending out the invitations 2 months before the wedding...earlier if you think that people need time to save for the wedding. Send them out 3 months before, and tell them what date they need to respond by. If people forget...just give them a quick phone call to confirm.

just don't, it really looks like you are expecting gifts, and while you are gonna get them either way, its very rude to specify preferences especially with wedding invites. Gifts are a nice perk not a right of the couple and to put that in there will make it look like you can't grasp that concept. People have the right to go wherever they want and get you whatever they want, while you may get some hideous things, thats just part of it and a million other brides are dealing with the same thing so you have to deal wiht it too! The wedding invite is to ask people to celebrate with you not to indicate gift preferences....Most people don't mind callin or askin around, its not that big a deal. Save yourself the time and energy stuffing the little cards with the invites and skip it, I really do think you will come out better! also, if a person can't figure out where you are at, they tend to just send money, which is always good, and I know cuz I have a lot of distant family on my list and my wedding is in 12 days and I have been getting checks in the mail almost everyday for the past month so its kinda to your benefit not to mention it!

I think the invites should definitely be in the mail 4 months before the wedding at the very least. You could also spread the word through your moms and wedding party when and where it will be and that the bride has reserved a block of rooms. When I know I am invited to a wedding out of town, I always try to find out the hotel details so I can book early.

The norm is 6 weeks. For this type of wedding where the guests will have to make travel arrangements, I would go for at least 8 weeks. If you have a hotel and have blocked off rooms, then I would state that fact and tell them they have to let you or the hotel by a certain date. Cut them off about a week before you actually have to know by. If you know someone (and you really want them there) is going and have not responded, then give them a quick call or e-mail as a reminder. Best wishes on your marriage.

I had a destination wedding and I sent my invites out 10 weeks in advance. That way, every one had time to request time off work and book rooms, flights, and cars. Seeing as how a month is standard for a normal wedding, I would say 8-10 weeks.

I am having a destination wedding as well ! I sent out "Save the Date" cards with the date and wedding location info etc. 6 months ahead. We are planning on sending out the actual invitations 2 months ahead.
Congratulations !

I know at my hotel - we only hotel wedding blocks a month out from the wedding. Invitation are usually sent out around one month out ... maybe you should change the norm and send it 2 months out?

i think a month to the wedding day will be enough for the guest to make the reservations.
you could also call the hotel you want to use for necessary terms and conditions.they will be able to provide you with information regarding the choice you have made.

At least two months. People need time to plan ahead and anything short of that is cutting it too close. You need a good headcount for reservations and food. Hard to plan with short notice. You should already have all the "RSVP"s returned to you at least one month in advance.

contact the hotel and find out how far in advance rooms are likely to be open, then go from there.
