Hi greenfrog, I recommend you try http://www.petfinder.com
There you could find an older shelter cat, and an older cat would be less of a hassle than a young one. Most cats are mix bred there, but that's okay, by interacting with the grown shelter cats you can be assured of their personality. You would have to pay a fee versus a free kitten, but you'd be guaranteed they had no diseases and you'd be rescuing a cat that'd adore you forever! Sounds great to me, I hope you try it!

Domestic Shorthair. What you'd think of as just your run of a mill cat, I suppose. All sorts of varieties in color and pattern, very loving, good personalities.

Bengals also make wonderful cats. Very laid-back. But you have to make sure you get an F-4 or higher, because the lower the number, the closer they are related to an Asian Leopard--you want one more domesticated probably. Though I had an F-2 and never had any problems. Very low shedding--exquisite looking, too--but pretty expensive to buy (around $700). You can get a domestic shorthair much cheaper.

I too recommend an abyssinian or part - abyssinian.

I have a little blue part-aby, and she is the sweetist cat I have ever seen. Her name is Smoochy and it describes her to a tee. She has a really quiet little voice that sounds like a bell when she speaks, and she's the most affectionate cat in the world. She loves being petted and always wants to snuggle up with me. She follows me from room to room and always wants to be with me. She's very understanding and makes eye contact whenever she can, and will always come to you if you call her. She's not persistant, though, so if you're busy and you tell her 'no' she will leave you alone for a while. She's a beautiful little pudding, with a gorgeous little face with huge golden eyes. When she's not talking to me, she's lying in the sun on a window ledge. She loves playing with her little ball and I never have trouble with flies or insects in my house, because she kills every single one.

Just a note, though, aby's need a whole lot of love and affection or they will be sad, so make sure it wouldn't be left on it's own for long periods of time every day. Aby's need friends.

Go to your local shelter, ASPCA office or cat rescue group. Let them know what kind of characteristics you're looking for, and they can guide you. Probably an older ( past their kittenhood) cat would be better for you - the most hassle in a cat is their kittenhood, so if you get an older kitty they will be more mellow and more than likely house trained!

Sphinx, Cornish Rex and Abyssinian cats are all hypoallergenic. All of those cats favor to be offered from breeders and may be somewhat expensive. a lady who owns a horse on the barn my horse is at owns an Abby and suggested that her cat had value her $four hundred to get. in accordance to her, the cat is amazingly laid decrease back and attractive, yet I really have not in any respect for my section considered the cat. Sphinx cats can value about $350 supply or take relying on the breeder. i have not in any respect considered a Sphinx cat myself, yet in accordance to web pages i have study, they have an recommendations-blowing temperament. i'm not particular how a lot a Cornish Rex expenditures, yet i'm particular they are also priced extraordinarily intense.

Get a pound baby. Short hair would be best. A older cat that is reaching for you through the bars is best. A kitten is a lot of work. A adult cat will love you for getting it out of jail.

Don't get a siamese, they are very vocal.

Any other kind is good. Just go to a shelter and play with the cats, and get a feel for whoever is calmest.

I would recommend going to your local animal shelter and volunteer to foster cats until you find the perfect fit for your household. I did this and it took me 8 months to find my two babies.
