It sounds like social phobia (previously known as social anxiety disorder). There are things that can help!! Talk to a psychiatrist and they can recommend therapy and medication (SSRIs like prozac, etc work to treat this).
EDIT: Unlike what people are posting, this is in fact a phobia. However, social phobia has its own listing is not lumped together with all the other phobias (in the DSM-IV, the manual for psychiatric disorders). Social phobia, like all other phobias, is an anxiety disorder. You are not paranoid. That's a totally different diagnosis.

thats not a phobia, thats just all around paranoia. you should try and get some counselling, or go to a psychologist. Paranoia can get worse over time and possibly lead to depression and suicidal thoughts. Not being comfortable in public places just means that you care a little too much what other people think about you and you care about it so much that you always think that everyone is talking about, or staring at you. Getting help would make it so that you dont care so much about those things anymore...

Jenny i believe that you may. I cant think of the name of it right of hand but it is the fear of public places, and even more the fear of public. There's only one way to face any fear, and that's just to face it. It may take time, and you may never get over it, but you have to try. The only other thing that I can tell you, is that you need to figure out what it is that makes you uncomfortable when your in those situations, and do everything possible to fix it and make yourself comfortable. Good Luck and Go out and Enjoy yourself

No, you don't have a phobia. You just get nervous in social situations. A phobia would have prevented you from entering the restaurant at all or leaving your house for that matter.

it can be kind of social anxiety disorder. It is when you are worried people are paying attention to you and are laughing at you. in fact, they are not, but you cant help the feeling. You probably have problem with low self esteem, you feel self conscious and yuo might need help with that. after therapy you might feel much better and enjoy being around people again.

just relax and go out with some friend in a group, and if you think people are looking and taking about you, then you are probably a celebrity !

Well, either you are just paranoid and need to get out more, or you have agoraphobia (the fear of being in public places) Check in with your doctor or a therapist....he'll let you know. Good luck!

sounds like a bad case of anxiety, not a phobia. You should see a doctor and be extremely honest about all of your symptoms.
