AutoRacing is boring for those who don't know much about the technical aspects of the machinery or the driving itself. Formula One should rightfully be the most interesting of all motorsports, and yet it's pretty boring because the fans are left in the dark as to what's going on. And that's what the racing teams want; everything in F1 is about "pushing the envelope" and getting an edge on the competition, so technical secrets are always an issue, even to the detriment of the sport itself. For the most part, the cars in F1 are prototype machines using the most advanced motor technology that will eventually finds its way to everyday production cars and parts. But all that technology is lost in the "spectator" aspect of the race. All that fans see are cars doing lap after lap, with little to no overtaking whatsoever. But if the fan is enlightened as to what is happening with the car as the race progresses, they might be more excited. For example, the tires are starting to go bare and are losing tread or the car is starting to run on fumes unless the driver pulls into the pits.
Strangely enough, in NASCAR, another type of autoracing, authorities have tried to keep the fans in the know. You see this a lot with the new internet capablilites they offer fans; they can follow a single car/driver by reading up on the schematics and graphs that are pumped into your computer screen.
But all in all, NASCAR is a boring event in and of itself. No matter how much they try to "entertain" all that's happening is cars going around in circles, or ovals. No matter how hard NASCAR is trying to push itself as a spectator sport, it's hard to watch the same same over and over ad nauseum. And though there is some skill involved in oval circuit racing like in NASCAR, it doesn't take much, which is why many people don't find it very interesting.
AutoRacing is far more exciting when you see driving skill when cars approach corners at incredible speeds and deal with tight maneuvers.

Well as a kid I never payed attention to it because The idea of going around and around was boring. Now I wished I had payed attention to it more. If I had I would probably be a race car driver today. I love speed!!!!!!!!!!!! Lawfully I will never experience 200 mile per hour on the street. I guess thats why I have 5 years of Nascar games for my ps2.

You are going to get creamed by some folks. But I do agree with you. I have been to a race and fell asleep in my seat. Left hand turns and straight. Big deal. F1 is better by far.

It's not boring to race fans. If it bores you, watch something really exciting like golf.

If you've never been to a real live race, I can see how you can find it boring. TV doesn't show the crazy fans and the hard work that goes into putting on a race. Trust me, when you go to a race, it's addicting!

TV DOESN'T REALLY DO IT JUSTICE. ANYWAY, CLEARLY YOU DON'T LIKE AUTO RACING, BUT YOU ASK BECAUSE YOU SUSPECT THAT THERE MUST BE SOMETHING TO IT. PLEASE, GO TO A SINGLE RACING EVENT, EVEN IF YOU BUY THE CHEAP SEATS. YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE HOW LOUD AND FAST DRAGSTERS ARE. IT'S TRULY BEYOND WORDS. YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE HOW FAST SPORTS CARS TAKE TURNS AT. YOU MUST SEE AN OPEN-WHEELED CAR LIKE IRL OR CHAMPCAR SLOW FROM A STRAIGHT-AWAY AND TRY TO MAKE A TURN. MY GOD, HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A FORMULA ONE CAR? EACH ONE IS A MOVING MIRACLE. YOU MUST SEE THE DIRT FLY IN CHUNKS AT THE CROWD IN SMALL DIRT RACETRACKS WITH LITTLE CARS WITH TITANIC ENGINES. YOU HAVE TO STAND AT THE FENCE AND WATCH THE CARS RIP PAST YOU. YOU GOTTA SMELL THE FUEL FUMES AND FEEL THE ROAR. RACE FANS WATCH ON TV BECAUSE WE'VE SEEN THE REAL THING. ANYWAY, HAVE YOU NOTICED THAT TV TELEVISES GOLF, FISHING, BOWLING AND POOL? THIS SEEMS TO ME KIND OF SILLY BUT PEOPLE WHO PLAY, WATCH. I'M COOL WITH THAT!

for one, it's not boring at all. Not only is it extremely exciting, there isn't another sport as patriotic as Nascar!!! Watch it every week and you will see exactly what i mean. It is the fastest growing sport right now, more sell-outs than pro football or ML baseball, but hey you have your version of boring, we know the truth of excitement at the racetrack!
