I like to brush after every meal and snack, but I wonder if this is too harsh on my gums. I use a soft toothbrush in the morning and during the day and an Oral B triumph at night.

This is okay, as long as you use soft toothbrush.

Because I have braces, I'm told to brush after every meal and snack.

Brush 2 times a day at MOST. If you brush too hard, you can ruin the enamel coating of your teeth, making it actually easier to get cavaties~

I brush after every meal. That is the recommended thing to do. Don't worry about it.

Should be okay as long as you use a soft brush.

Talk to your dentist if you worry about it, but it should be fine.

And don't forget to floss too! :-)
