My scalp has been real itchy and I was wondering if you can get fleas from your cats. I have two indoor cats and noticed that they have fleas.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

Fleas live off of the blood of any mammal and so they can be transmitted to humans and other animals from a pet. They will lay eggs in your pet's fur, which then fall off wherever your cat may go (this includes the carpet, or your bed!!!). Once the eggs hatch and the larvae mature, they can jump bck on to your pets to feed, OR jump on to you and bite you. They won't lay eggs on you, but they certainly can bite and make you pretty itchy. Some people can even be especially allergic to flea bites.

So, if you find fleas on your pets or in your house, you need to act quickly to get rid of them.

You should bring your cat to the vet and get some flea medication. It's usually a topical gel/ointment and is easy to put on the cat's fur. This will kill off the fleas on your cat an hopefully limit any new ones from "jumping on."

You should also make sure to vacuum your house well to help rid the carpets and other areas of the house of the eggs and larva of the fleas. You might want to throw out any bedding and cloth toys that the cat sleeps on as well.

Keeping your cat indoors will help limit future infestations.

Good luck, and I hope it stops itching!!

yes you can get fleas. Make sure that you not only treat your cat but if at all possible do what is called "bombing your house". What it is, is a product usually by raid that comes in a can usually 4 per box and you put them in separate parts of your home, remove all animals and humans from the house for about 4 hours. When you come back throw canisters away and open windows in home so that any lingering smell escapes home. This way you have no more fleas.

Yes, fleas feed on ALL warm blooded mammals. You should give your cats a bath and make sure you remove all fleas and flea larva. The fleas will attempt to run towards areas that are not being washed, such as inside the ears and in the corners of their eyes. When you see the little buggers running for those areas make sure you pick them off. If the fleas should get into the ears or eyes use warm water to rinse them out. Depending on the level of infestation you may want to use a bug bomb to fumigate your house. Fleas will hide in places on your body as well, make sure you wash every part of body and you may want to ask a family member to help you inspect your body. I usually steer away from flea sprays and powders because they can irritate your cats skin. A mild shampoo and regular bathing is sufficient enough to keep those little buggers away. Good luck.

You cannot get fleas as such living on you as a human. They can't live on the scalp for instance. But they can jump on you and bite you if there is a bad infestation in the house. You MUST get your cats de-flead though. Fleas will make your cat ill and can pass on intestinal parasites (worms) to your cats. If they get them really bad they could become anaemic. Cats are totally miserable with the fleas. You can get things like ADVANTAGE or FRONTLINE spot-on treatment from your vet which is very effective. Or if you prefer you can put a flea collar on them. Treat your carpets (if you have them) and cat bedding too. You also need to get your cats wormed at the same time. There is a new dual wormer spot-on treatment for cats called PROFENDER.

How do you know the cats did not get fleas from you? If they are indoor cats and you are the one that goes outdoors, odviously you brought the fleas in and gave them to your cats. Oh by the way..all those people that say people dont get fleas..ever hear of THE PLAGUE? Only killed about 3/4 of the earth off.

Fleas can bite you but cannot live off human blood so no. It's the same way with lice they can bite dogs but cannot live off them like they do humans. The fleas are probably in your furniture and you are just getting bit. I would get flea spray for the furniture and flea bath for the cats and your problem should get better.

My answer may not get any thumbs up because I am going to ask "Why do you allow your animals under your care to have fleas to begin with? Take care of the animals and the fleas won't be a further problem.

As far as for you, having a short look at the drug store should have some kind of treatment for you.

Yes you can. It is just fleas prefer to be in well furry places, and we generally don't have enough hair on our body to say they would want to live on us. You should clean out the house and give the cats a flea dip.

Yes ... but if you have indoor cats, someone had to bring the fleas into the house. Use advantage on your cats. Over the counter stuff from petsmart or wal-mart is no good.
