She broke my heart. I absolutely adored her, did everything I could and tried to be the best boyfriend in the world. She didn't brake up with me for any reason other than she thought it wasn't working - we had our differences, but I thought it was fine. I honestly did love her.
She still wants to be my best friend and genuinely insists that she likes me more than anybody in the world, still. We were together for 6 months, but I am heartbroken and I can't see how I can be her friend and remain in love with her. It's too hard - I have to see her everyday at University as it is. I don't want to get over her, I love her, but what else can I do?
Is it selfish of me to be like this?

To be honest, i understand your ex girlfriend's point of view, you were her best friend while u were together and u must mean an awful lot to her if she still wants to maintain that, but i also understand were your coming from, u still love her and it will be very hard for you to see her with other boyfriends, and since best friends talk about that stuff, its probably going to kill you, so i don't really think its a good idea for you to be that close to her right now, give yourself some space and let yourself have the chance of getting over her. Then maybe when uve got a new girlfriend ( which doesn't seem like an option now but it will happen) maybe you can start a friendship again. I'm not saying cut all ties with her, but at least give yourselves some distance and explain your reasons to her properly, she'll understand.I think that's the best option for you at the moment good luck.

I never understood, why women would think that would being best friends, with a guy, could work.
I tried that when I was younger, and all that happens, is you get your heart trodden on. They then have the nerve to talk about the guys they are dating, mostly creeps, and how bad they are treating her. LIke that's what we want to hear.
Give her up, get over your pain, and find another girl. It's a shame that you will run into her almost daily, but that's the hand you have been dealt.
I think, once she dates other guys, or sees you out with some other lady, she just may regret what she has done. She wants to have her cake and eat it too.
Don't give her that satisfaction. Just get over her, and move on with your life. It could be a blessing in disguise. You could just luck out and find the right girl for you.

Women brake up relationships for millinons of reasons. I just did the same thing to my boyfriend ( well x now) and I still wantr to be his friend. I think if she wants to be your friend still she is probably ginuine about her feelings twoard u and If u love her the way u say stay her friend and try to win her back. Being a friend will definitly have benifits that being a boyfriend wont. Women open up to their friends male and female alike in a way that they dont feel comfortable doing with a booyfriend that is what friends are for.
Women and Men are different as far a socialization. Women desire companionship in many different types and forms in a way that men dont. So You will inevitablly have to do what is best for u. If u feel like you dont want to be a friend to her and u want to move on the best thing to do is to sever all ties and move on. It is not selfish for u to feel that way. Try to explain it to her and if it doesnt relsove itself in conversatin make a decision, go or stay. Are u commited to her or not! You know whats funny I am going through the same thing man except that we went out for 11 months. Like you I adore her too and still love her to death. She wants to be friends and I know its hard as hell but I am too nice and love her way too much just not talk to her. Soo yeah man its tough and you are not the only one. Its not selfish either. Just you know be friends and you never know in the future you might end up being together again or she might fall for you all over then you can have your fun haha.

Grow some balls man! Move on and you will never be able to be best friends because as soon as you find someone and quit giving her your attention, she will want you back. Some girls/women don't know what they want but if someone shows interest in you, then they want you back.
