My husband is 100% Italian and is very picky when it comes to Italian food. He won't eat out Italian unless we are back east. I was wondering if anyone that is actually Italian knows of a great place in AZ. Please don't say commercialized restaurants like Macaroni Grill, Olive Garden, etc...( I couldn't get him to step foot in those places) lol!

I am Italian from the Bronx and the best Italian food in Maricopa County anyway is at Baci on the NW corner of Williams Field and Power Roads
Review:
Meal: It's good, basic Italian food. Dinners come with a warm loaf of flour-dusted ciabatta and choice of soup or salad — all three are done well.
Our first starter, the caprese salad, is refreshing and zesty. The bowl of sliced ripe tomatoes, chopped red onion and fresh mozzarella is tossed with an olive oil and vinegar dressing that fills the bottom of the bowl. The appetizer is more than enough for four to share.

The Mama Lisa Trio special is a great idea — it's one stuffed shell, one manicotti and a square of meat lasagna with either marinara or meat sauce. The slightly sweet meat sauce does its job of cutting the ricotta richness — it's more than I could eat in two meals.

The scents drifting from the sausage boscaiola remind me of Italy's fine pesto dishes. The heavy-on-the-basil pomodoro sauce covers every inch of penne pasta, sliced sausage and portobello mushroom. It's one of the best Italian dishes I've come across in a while.

Scene: There are several roomy dining areas, all with vinyl grapevine table cloths and thin, blue, officelike carpet.

I am not Italian-- however, there is a restaurant that I went to in Dallas, TX that was run by a completely Italian staff and I swore that a table there was full of what looked like mafia members. LOL. The servings were huge and the food was fantastic!

I moved to the Phoenix are this year and saw a listing for the same restaurant here (the location is actually in Scottsdale). I didn't know it was a chain. It's called Maggiano's. The one in Dallas wasn't cheap and was rather fancy. I haven't been to the one here but I wanted to go on my birthday. It didn't happen, though.

Sorry if this isn't what you were looking for!

La Famiglia in Chandler. I beleive that the woman that owns it said she was from the East Coast so it's like pretty authentic. I lived in AZ for 4 years and that was the best Italian restaurant. I now live on the East Coast.

Description: Owner Daniel Malventano puts his heart and soul into this romantic Italian restaurant, emphasizing quality in every aspect of the operation. He visits Italy every year, bringing home Italian vases, art objects, dinnerware and recipes---all of which he puts to use in the restaurant. The menu changes seasonally but may include starters such as sautéed calamari and shrimp with Tuscan beans and bacon, or buffalo mozzarella with roasted Roma tomato. Entrées range from pork tenderloin with prosciutto-plum sauce to duck confit with wild cherry sauce and black truffle rice croquette. The Chilean sea bass, topped with tomatoes, capers, kalamata olives and roasted peppers, is a menu mainstay; Malventano's customers insist on it. Both soups and pastas are wonderful here, and although some are elegant, others are simple and hearty and perfectly delicious. Desserts are fabulous. Try the crostata (filled with pastry cream, sautéed bananas and blackberries with almond sauce) and you'll see what we mean. This is one of the Valley's best high-end restaurants---Italian or otherwise---and yet it remains a sleeper.

Va Bene in Ahwatukee, AZ. It is off of Chandler Blvd. and 48th Street. It is AMAZING. Great food and really nice wine bar. The owners are from Italy and it's family run.

even though I know they've gotta a chain of them Bucca di Beppo in Peoria and Scottsdale still respect all the Italian entree traditions and are by far my favorite Italian place to go. You've gotta trust me on this one becuase I for one am very particular about authentic food.
