my 5 year old dog has urinated a couple of times on her bed - overnight, possibly in her sleep. not a little leak, a large amount of urine. it has happened 2 or 3 times in the past 6 months. she is otherwise happy and healthy, although a little insecure sometimes (what dog isn't!!). should I see a vet?

If she is an older spayed female, this is common. The vet will most likely want a urine sample bought in to check for infection, and once that is ruled out, will give her the hormone pills others have mentioned. Very cheap & they fix the problem right now. Good luck!

Could be a few things, bladder problems like urinary infection, hormone problems, diabetes, kidney problems, cancer, or any other number of things. I'd have her checked out by the vet, take a urine sample with you if you can get some. Doggie diapers could help you deal with the problem until you get the answers from your vet.

Yes, take her to the vet.

We just had a huge fiasco with our pug, she had bladder stones and had to have surgery. One got stuck while we were on vacation and she had to be rushed to an animal hospital. She is also getting over an infection (don't know yet which came first, the infection or the stones).

Better to check it out early than to wait for an emergency.

She is still 'leaking' when she sits or is lying down but it is slowly getting better.

I used to have a boxer that would pee the bed and sometimes just on the floor and she was potty trained! So the vet told us she needed hormone replacements, that was the reason why she was losing control of her bladder. So now she has to have hormones for the rest of her life, but it stopped the problem and she is a happy little lady!! (So are we!!)

I would say call the vets office and see what they say. My chihuahua/shih-tzu mix does that too. She has done it pretty much since i got her but as she ages it gets more frequent. She is8 1/2 years old in human years. Most of the females I have had did it too as they got older. Guess they just age like humans but i would talk to the vets office if you are worried.

My canine try this to. i chanced on that if I positioned an further canine blanket interior the kennel, they are going to use that as conceal somewhat of the canine mattress. that's not a project, some canine decide to be coated at at nighttime time. As for the mattress wetting, it may be my opinion purely that the breeder did not practice him for paper or pads quickly sufficient and he have been given into the habit of wetting his bedding. No, possibly he won't strengthen out of wetting his "front room" mattress, so take it away for a whilst, or positioned some paper down close to it. he's purely 6 months previous, so which you will wreck the habit of the mattress wetting particularly actual. He sounds attractive as a button.

It could also be an infection. Best to go see a vet and bring a urine sample.
