You use a small "g". Would you like me to write your name down like that if I was addresssing you? " Hey keith, how are you?"

Good humor George. I laughed so hard when I saw that!

It is an insult to THE GOD when one uses a small g.

Small g should be used only for names of false gods.
(I would demonstrate with a name of the desert moon_ _ _ but I would get a Violation Notice again!)

Because I don't believe god exists, and things that don't exist don't care if I respect them or not.

Besides, my cat's name is Bart, but he is a cat, not a Cat. When I answered your question, I referred to god as a concept, not god as a name. If I was referring to the god of the Bible, I would use the capital.

For some reason I always thought that when one referred to God as an entity or by name it was captialized.

Things like "godlike" would be in lower case. I also thought when talking about fictional gods in fantasy/scifi stories in was also lower case.

How is it shown in the bible?

I couldn't care less how anyone spells my name. Generally, I use God to refer to the monotheistic sky-daddy and god to refer to the undefined and unknowable god that I think probably exists.

I use all caps: GOD, when writing answers, as a sign of respect. I do not know many questions where caps are not used. I will have to pay attention. I read an answer where many use: G_d as a sign of respect, also.

I refer to God as God, with a capital g.

God is written with a capital G, not a small one. One has nothing to do with the other. When I sign my name I use small letters.

Because god isn't a name, it's a title.

For it to be capialized, like other proper titles, a name would have to follow it.

Is god a name?

most people especially in chatting, instant messaging, blogs or Yahoo! answers, don't capitalize pronouns. "hey keith, how are you?", i didn't even capitalize the h. Laziness, or they really don't care.
