Many crimes start out as a felony charge and get pled down to a misdemeanor, that happens all the time, especially if it's your first offense. So if it's your first time in the system, I would bet on a fine and probation with some community service. You damn sure better follow the conditions of your sentence and keep your nose clean from now on!!
Since you are under 18, if you did get any time you would be in a juvenile detention center until you're 18 at the most.
It comes down to what your passenger does. If you're lying and he says so, they will not want to cut you much slack. If in fact he steps up and says he stold the car and you had no knowledge of it, you might get lucky.
Get a better class of friends.

That all depends. Can the courts prove that you knew. An example would be a screwdriver sticking out of the ignition or the steering column torn apart. Did you run? All these things lead to probable cause for your arrest. I would think that if you were arrested for the charge, then the officer definately had probable cause. The court would have to have a reasonable doubt that you didn't know the car was stolen. Hope this helps.

Yes. You can go to jail. Most states will often put 16 year olds on
trial as adult, especially if they can and do drive.
You need to get your parent(s) to go with you to hire a very good defense attorney. Do not trust the court appointed ones. (My cousin got a very bad deal from one, in a similar circumstance.)
The attorney is going to cost your parent(s) a lot of money.
(Think second mortgage a lot...)
They might be willing to hire one if they actually believe you didn't steal the car.

Don't try to blow smoke our direction. If you ask 50 people if they did it, guess how many said no right 50. Look at your so called friends, if you are telling the truth or not, I am sure you are not surprised that this happened.
Maybe it is time to develop a life that doen't include knowing the cops on a first name basis.

Did your 'friend' steal the keys as well? If not, you knew the car was stolen. As the driver, it will be up to you to prove you didn't know it was stolen. You obviously knew it wasn't your car.

First of all I don't believe that you did not know, but lets say your story is true(?), then its up to your attorney and I hope you have one to prove otherwise. What caught my attention was your last phrase, "but I'm only 16", its gave me the inpression you were uspet that you were charged as an adult, right??? But either way , I was not there, you know the real story and good luck.
