the only difference between americans and mexicans is the number of natives we had to kill to get our land

in reality, neither of us own any land since we both had to ruthlessly massacre masses of natives in order to get what we call "our land"

do you agree or not?

yay or nay?

even though i am mexican, i can tell you this plain and simple:

the spaniards, too, brutally killed many indians

its sad, but true. does "cortez" ring any bells? what about "the aztecs?" we are both guilty of it.

The Spaniards actually tried to wipe them out. What was that word they used? Heck, it's in the de Soto papers, you can find it on line.

However, there are a lot of differences between our countries, regardless of conquest of land beginnings for both countries. The question then becomes, what did we each do with the land and for our people to get where we are today?

Cortez used cannon balls and muskets,
American settlers and immigrants used blankets and bullets,
Mongols used the stirrup,
Romans used the turtle formation,
Hyksos used chariots to conquer Egypt.

Yes. Virtually no governmental group currently existing has always occupied the land it currently resides on. Their ancestors got it from someone else by some violent method.

We try to be more enlightened about this with our more recent ancestors and we are offended that early Americans used smallpox like a biological weapon, or wrote treaties that nobody on the American side actually believed would hold up.

Americans marched on down to Chapultapek lake in Mexico city to force Mexico to relinquish most of the West and Southwest continental U.S. areas.

Basically you have the people who live there now...and some time period of continuous occupancy defines how much the rest of the world considers the land to be "theirs".

(and who is this "we" you refer to :=P )

P.S: The noble Aztecs had some interesting techniques also. They sent messengers to a bordering village and asked the non Aztecs to build a shrine to the Aztec gods. If the villagers did not comply within the time allowed, they returned and supplied the villagers with several very effective weapons...then told them to practice and learn the weapons well as the Aztecs would return in another week.

Cortez' 900 Spaniards murdered over 100,000 Aztecs.

Yes and no.

I applaud you for asking a "thinking" question.

While it's true that both whites and Mexicans killed many of the true indigenous peoples of the North American continent, there are many differences between Americans and Mexicans today, so many I couldn't possibly write them all here today.

Nice question.

Th ethnicity of Mexicans is actually the result of the mix between the native peoples and the Spaniards.

If it was up to me, no one would ever be killed unless he had killed someone else in cold blood.

In other words, I feel bad about English people killing the native Indians. BUT I am German and Irish 50/50, not just "white". So it scares me to get stared at angrilly by people of other races.

I agree that both cultures are guilty of murderous exploits.

Mexicans are Americans.

Both places lost the majority of their indigenous population during "civilzation".

Before Cristoval Colon (Christopher Columbus) came along and started teh end of the indigenous populations, Mexico has teh Aztecs and the Mayans who were incredibly intelligent and made some phenomenal accompishments before they were destroyed by the Conquistadores.

At a base lever all of N. America has much in comon, Mexiso freedom from Spain came shortly after that of teh US from England, one example followed the other.

I guess I disagree. And the differences is what makes a culture facinating and rich. Pura Vida

it fairly is hard one yet... "i've got self belief all human beings who have self belief in freedom, tolerance and human rights have a accountability to oppose bigotry and prejudice in step with sexual orientation." it fairly is by using Coretta Scott King this one is larger to me. :-)
