had = tuvo (past tense of the verb to have=tener)

él/ella tuvo (he/she had)
and
usted tuvo (you formal)

if used as an auxiliary it gets more complicated:

ex: I had worked eight hours = Yo trabajé ocho horas.

with to - "had to" = tenía
He had to go to the doctor = El tenía que ir al doctor.

chesslaru sorry but you had gone is = te habías ido
NOT te hayas ido.

I looked for you but you had left = Te busqué pero te habías ido.

and also if you put "if" in front is again something different:

If I had gone home = Si yo hubiera ido a casa

"had" has two meanings in Spanish:

1.- Is the simple past of To Have (Tener) as in the phrase "I had a hammer") hence "had" is translated as "tuve", "tuvimos", tuvieron", etc, depending genre and number of the subject (Yo tuve, tu tuviste, él tuvo, nosotros tuvimos, ellos tuvieron, etc.)

2.- Is the auxiliar verb as used in the subjuntive form "you had gone" that means "te hayas ido" for example. So the translation of had in this context is "haya", "hayas", "hayan" depending upon genre and number of subject.
Also can be translated as "te hubieras ido"(used with you), "me hubiera ido" (used with I), "se hubieran ido" (used with they) (in this form I do not how to name the grammatical form it in English)

More context, please. I can think of at least two different words. Spanish is not a translation of English, so there's not a direct one-to-one word relationship.
