Because we assimilated to the culture and at some point we became Americans not European-Americans. We had an establish culture of which the new bread of immigrats are reluctant to even acknowledge. And yes minorities do complain, thats why groups like the Minutemen have such a diverse range of ethnic backgrounds. Australia is surronded by water water is hard to travel over and thus expensive. By this logic one can assume that those foreigners you speak of in Australia had money and some education which benefit that country. Europe and America's boundaries are easily traversed thus poor uneducated people who contribute little or nothing, usually neither they usually end up being a burden, come to America and Europe. Comprende?

Some immigrants, no one ever complains about. I never hear complaints about Korean immigrants or Indians. However, some immigrants have arrived demanding that their host country accomidate their old ways of lives.
Imagine if you invite someone over for dinner, and they start demand you rearrange your house. First they demand payment in cash even though you are giving them dinner. Then they are offended that your wife eats with you and says your wife you must in the garden with the dogs.
Many Muslim immigrants in Britian have done similar things. They demand welfare and have also tried to impose Sharia law.
A small percentage of people have a job where they feel threatened by a hard working immigrant. These are the people who do not like the Eastern European immigrants because they work hard and threaten the job security of the lazy yob.

Our ancestors who came here (in my case, my paternal grandparents and earlier, my maternal great-grandparents) did things a lot differently.
First and foremost, they learned English. Period.
Second, they adapted to the culture of the country. There was no demand on the government that there should be "entitlements" whether they got there legally or not. My grandmother worked her tail off as a seamstress until she retired.
Especially in the case of Middle Easterners in Europe, there is a sense they don't want to assimilate, they want to take over. There is call for the construction of a mega mosque (which will seat 70,000) in London that will change the skyline of London. The group wanting this mosque, Tablighi Jamaat, has ties to both Richard Reid (the failed shoe bomber) and two of the 7/7 London bombers.
Now do you understand the rejection?

It all has to do with being comfortable with your local situation. That includes national situations today because of the media and communication. The European and American circumstances are a bit different. Americans have been living through one wave of immigration after another for 300 years plus. Take a look at the welcome Americans gave to the Irish and Italians. Those who had ancestors here before them were upset enough to invent distasteful street terms for them. Then, there was the influx of European Jews who were fleeing life-threatening repression.
The European experience is somewhat different. Nations like France have many hundreds of years where they lived without a large influx of non-French people. I like the French people very much. It's easy for me to understand how a French person might wake up one day to see the Paris suburbs controlled by non-French people, mostly Arabs. The French simply wish to enjoy their comfortable village lifestyle. Sadly, the times they are a'changin'.

In the Socialists protests of April and May of 2006, the Los Angeles Times and local TV covered it up. Many who attended the demonstrations called the Times coverage “propagandistic.” Demonstrators gleefully defaced photos of president Bush and urged supporters to “stop the Nazis!” Protesters burned American flags and waved placards fo the North American continent with America crossed out. Thugs with masks flashed gang signs on the steps of LA city hall. Young people raised their fists reminiscent of the nazi salute and while wearing the radical socialists leftists guerrilla group and Nation of Aztlan emblems.
In recent poles 78% of Americans see Mexicans as hardworking and honest, the same pole on the Mexican side revealed what was brewing beneath the cover, Mexicans think Americans are neither hard workers, nor honest, they see us as racist, intolerant and moderately law-abiding. 1 in 6 thought Americans are honest, and 1 in 4 thought we were hardworking, while 62% said the United States is wealthier because we exploit other people’s wealth, and 3 out of 4 said Americans were racists. In 2001 New Mexico a state with 43% Hispanic, a resolution was introduced in the legislature to rename the state “Neuvo Mexico” the name it carried before entering the Union. When the bill was defeat sponsor representative Miguel Garcia told reports that covert racism may have been the reason, the same racism, he said, that was behind the originally naming the state New Mexico.

Siervocal you putting all Europeans in one boat here, with your statement. Some European countries didn't colony other countries. You mention South Africa there. Who colonise it? The British did. Always remember when using the word “Europeans” that it made up of many cultures, and languages plus customs. Yes you are right about eastern Europeans migrating to Western Europe. But some countries can’t cope with it. For example here in Ireland with a population of over three million, how is going to be able to cope with these migrants? We all ready have Nigerians, Romanians, Latvians, and Lithuanians and Poles living here.

Considering every american comes from immigrants, your rational is a little off. What you see, is people having a disdain for law breakers. People who come here illegally or stay beyond there allowed time. Those type of people, and a large percentage of them are white and from europe, FYI, seem to have a common thread of not wanting to be a part of society or assimilate. Mostly because they are not here to become a part of america, but rather to take and abuse and then go home. They are here for their benefit and that, unfortunately, is not how america works. We may have our problems here, but a lot of non US people take that as we don't get along. Nothing can be further from the truth. That is why america is great. We are a country of 300 million people of a multitude of backrounds who have melted together as one and made a great people called americans. So we take great insult to people who come here, crap all over us, take, use, abuse and show no respect for our most basic of laws.
For the record, a very large percentage of americans of hispanic ancestory, are also very much against this onslaught of illegal aliens. To say that only whites are opposed to it shows a fundamental lack of understanding of the issues on your part and a high level of ignorance. Some of the most staunch anti illegal alien people I have met are from NON european backrounds, as you like to put it.
My grandparents came here from ireland less than 100 years ago. They came legally. They paid their dues. They became one with those here and haven't looked back. Today people come, don't do it legally, don't join out society and have no intention on staying or having a future here. That is unacceptable and I don't care what color your skin is. An illegal irishman (and there are plenty) can get the hell out right along with every other race, creed and religion that is here undocumented and illegally.

About "they don't want to adapt"... Those immigrants who have been here for more than 2 years ought to know English by now. Mostly, "they are taking over" is said becuz white people are AFRAID OF DISCRIMINATION based on our skin color (just like ancestors did to native Indians and African people long ago.) Personally, I don't deserve this discrimination for being European, becuz I have nothing to do with the killing and slavery. With more Mexicans comes cheap labor becuz some employers want to pay less to people from other races and make themselves look good by employing them.
Forget about "glass houses." THOSE WHO NOW LIVE IN AMERICA AND ARE FREE SHOULDN'T THROW STONES.
Love & Peace out.

Its quite simple really, no-one wants to accept the different customs and traits of immigrants, likewise the immigrant arrives with preconceived ideas of non conformity , hence , the indigenous inhabitants reject the attitude being forced upon it.
Change takes a great deal of time , thats why , the short term produces conflict.

Well just been reading your question - i live in England, it's only a small island compared to the States as you know but unfortunately we just happen to open our doors / gates to everyone that would like to live here.
I think our attitude is 'they are taking over' but believe me there could just be a chance looking at the overall picture that they could possibly be taking over.
Overall we don't mind immigrants but would prefer if they maybe lived and worked here for a period of 1 year and then went back to their own country with the knowledge and money they have earned and maybe help to revitalise their own nation.
Its just that when they come here they want to bring their own way of living i.e. religious beliefs, dress, tightknit communities.
When in Rome............
