yes it is true. There are a number of reasons. The problem of unwanted offspring is the biggest one. There is not enough shelter space nor funds and people to adopt them. So many end up being put to death.

They do it for a couple of reasons. One is that sometimes animals have behavioral problems because of their hormones, just like us. Another is because if an animal gets out, it'll have lots of babies (or get the female ones pregnant). There are more animals out there than there are people to take care of them, so these unwanted animals often have to be killed at the pound.
That's the life of a domesticated animal... it's really only a good idea to let them breed under controlled circumstances; otherwise it just causes problems.

It's a good thing that pets get neutered. We have a really big pet overpopulation problem and neutering and spaying are the only tools we have to fight it. Dogs and cats aren't human, and it's wrong to humanize them. They don't miss being able to procreate, and neutering/spaying actually makes them better pets. A neutered dog doesn't want to roam or mark the furniture, and tends to be less aggressive. A spayed dog doesn't menstruate (messy on the furniture), roams less, and stays healthier.
Hope this helps...

Pets don't know this is happening! It is a surgery and they are in sleepy land. The world is overwhelmed with stray pets and this is a way to eliminate this senselessness.

Ya! They just take out the inside of the sac. It's not like they cut the penis off.

pets get neutered so that the world isn't full of animals without homes. cats have dozens of kittens in one year, the ones that don't get put into homes, get done away with. have you ever seen the price is right....listen to Bob!!!!!

sometimes it's nessacery. like I had to get my male cat nutered because if I did'nt he would spray in my house and then he would be homeless, walking the streets, starving, getting ran over, etc. so I'm sure he would rather be alive with no nuts then be road kill.

If they didn't neuter dogs the Republican Party would not have snacks to serve at their meetings.
