We were really close, at one time. For a lot of years. he says he is busy alot. I guess he may be too busy to be friends anymore. Should I give up?

Get the clue quick! When someone ignores you like that, it's time to move on. Your friendship sounds like it is one-sided now.
The best thing to do is give them some space and see if they come around eventually. You never know what's going on in someone's life and they probably need some time to figure things out.
Whatever you do, don't keep calling. You will go from "someone I used to hang with" to "that's the person that doesn't get the hint" when your number shows up on caller ID.

It's possible that maybe you have grown apart, or maybe he just has a lot on his mind. If he is going thru any type of stress he may just be really caught up in that. Just an idea.... good luck and try not to worry too much. =)

People have very few "friends". This sounds more like an aquaintance.
If you are really friends, then you can always pick up where you left off. No weird feelings of trying to rehash old times.

sounds like he may be involved with someone else and he thought of you as possibly more than a friend at one point and now doesn't anymore. A friend is someone there for you and since he isn't, he is no longer a friend!!

Don't give up, maybe he really is busy and needs a little space. Give him a little bit of time.

well if he doesn't respond for a few hours or days maybe its ok
maybe he is just sad or busy or thinking
if a few months go by. maybe see if he is homeless or something
maybe he had no access to the pc

NO I WOULDN'T GIVE HIM UP. BUT I WOULDN'T BE WAITING FOR THE PHONE CALL EITHER. GO OUT AND HAVE SOME FUN, AND WHEN HE HAS THE TIME HE WILL CALL.
