I use 150g plain flour and 100g butter, rubbed together between your fingers until it looks liek breadcrumbs or you can use the lazy option and blitz it in a food processor. Add a tablespoon of water and stir in 75g of soft light brown sugar. You can use any kind of fruit really, last time I made it I used 2 apples and about 100g of frozen summer fruits (thawed first). Whack the fruits in a baking dish, put some brown sugar on, according to how sour the fruit is and how sweet you like it and cover with the crumble mix. Bake at 200C/Gas6 for about half an hour until the top is crisp and golden. If it's not sweet enough when it's done you can add more brown sugar. Hope that helps, if you're making more just use the same ratios.

The ratio should be 1/2 fat to flour by weight. You could try adding some oats or muesli to give it more texture. Don't use lard. I would recommend butter rather than margarine. The butter should be at room temperature. Rub it into the flour with your fingertips till it resembles breadcrumbs, then stir in sugar.(same weight of sugar as butter). My old recipe uses 1 1/2 lb fruit, 6 ounces flour, 3 ounces butter & 3 ounces of sugar

Here's my crumble topping and it always turn out good.

1 cup pecan or walnut pieces
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/4 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) cold butter or margarine, cut into small chunks

Place all ingredients in large bowl and make a coarse crumb mixture using fingers to mix.

Also, make sure you cook it long enough (350 degrees F for 30 to 40 minutes).

Lard???..Margarine??? For the best crumble you need butter! 100g, SR flour 1500G, white or demerera sugar 55g, a light touch (combining ingredients to resemble breadcrumbs)..and a hot oven 190/375F or gas 5..for 30-35 min....Enjoy!!

Yep. 8oz flour, 4oz sugar, 4oz margerine put it in the blender and hey presto. 30 mins hot oven.

Don't put too much crumble onto your apple otherwise the lower layer of it will not cook properly....say inch and a half max.

I LOVE crumble!

sprinkle the top with light brown sugar before baking, this should make it nice and crisp, also dont pile the crumble too high.
