Yes Purgatory is in the Bible. Although not mentioned by name the existence of a place which Catholics call Purgatory is implied or inferred. This falls into an area some call inferential theology. So the answer to the third question is that you are both right. The word isn't in the Bible but the inference to this place, Purgatory, is.
Let's look at some scripture to support the Catholic position.
In Matthew's Gospel (Matthew 12:32) we read that the sin of "Blaspheming the Holy Spirit" is a sin which won't be forgiven in this world or the next.
Matthew 12:32
And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
This passage implies that there are some sins which are forgiven in the next world.
In Matt 5:26 Jesus talks about a place from which you wouldn't be released until you paid everything you owe.
Matthew 5:26
Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

Purgatory; Catholic tradition teaches this is were people whom will eventually go to heaven must spend time purging away there sins. I do not believe in purgatory as they do... however where do our souls go after death? The Bible tells us that the dead will be judged first then the ones that are alive... so that tells me no one is in heaven yet, so where are they? I believe in a place called Abraham's bosom. Luke 16:22-23

I believe in a place LIKE purgatory, though it's not quite so hellish.
It's actually a rather nondescript place. Matter doesnt exist there so there's nothing to compare it to.
It is not unpleasant, and it's not so much a punishment as a period of cleansing, of "shuffling off the mortal coil" where your experiences and memories are filed away in what I can only describe as a library of sorts.
Some of you know of which library I speak.

Porgatory that he is talking about, is different from Purgatory that the Catholics believe in. Porgatory is similar to Purgatory, but the punishment in Porgatory is centered around being forced to watch the movie "Porgy's" over and over and over again. It is punishment for wasting time on earth .

Hello Boriquai21,
That is a good question- I have heard this before, and I was told that the catholic Church stole this purgatory thing from the pagans. However don't quote me on it. Good Luck in your search.

There is no mention of "purgatory" in the Biblical text.
When you die you either go to Heaven...or the Lake of Fire.
What path will you follow?

It is minimum security, Hell is supermax. It was developed by the Catholic church and detailed by Dante.
Since most of us are going to hell they felt it important to give people some hope by giving them a halfway house.

Purgatory was created by the Roman church. It has no Biblical basis at all.
