i told my mom today that i want to be grounded when i get trouble because that is what happens to 13 year olds when they are bad or they get something taken away. my mom told me that she will talk about this with my dad but she asked me why i thought this. i told her that i am way to big and old to still be getting spanked. i hate that because it hurts and i think it is stupid. it makes me feel bad and usually makes me act better but i don't think that is is good for someone my age.
there are much better ways to get punished. i know i am right. what do you think?

You seem to be aware of your behaviour, so perhaps you could try not misbehaving. That way you do not get smacked or grounded. I can understand that being smacked can be intimidating. It is good that you can go to your Mum and talk about this. Hopefully she will take on board what you have said the next time you play up.

I agree that 13 is too old to be spanked. Frankly I think the punishment should fit the crime, and my husband and I only spank for specific things. For a teenager I think having privledges and possessions taken away for a while is a better tactic.

I agree. No child should be spanked and I respect you for your honesty to your mother.You should use what I call I staements. Here is an example: I feel ( feeling word) when you......
Using these makes a conversation sound more mature and she will most likely listen to you more closely.

i told the same thing to my mom, but i was like 10, yeah, i do believe that 13 is way, way too old to still be getting spanked, now i am grounded instead

I don't care if you are 20, if you live in your parents house and they decide you need to be spanked, you bend over and take it. If you don't like it, when you are 18 you can leave.
