I have given her all the things that usually give her diarhea, but they aren't even working. Prune juice did not work out with her--she hates it! Nothing has changed in her diet, she drinks plenty of fluids, and is active. I don't want to scar her by giving her an enema. Any natural remedies (not enemas or laxatives) would be awesome

My middle child had this problem alot when she was little! I used grape or apple juice with a teaspoon of mineral oil and that seemed to work really well. You could always go back to Granny's way of doing things...cod liver or castrol oil---YUCK! But it will work.

mix a tablespoon or so of prune juice in a glass of water.... if she doesn't like that, make sure she drinks plenty of water and eats lots of veggies. Stay away from cheese and heavier carbs like bread (unless it's 100 percent whole grain). Bran also works - make some high bran muffins with less sugar than the recipe call for. They will still be delicious.

Question: How long has it been since she last went? And how much is she eating? Ensure that she is eating at least 2ce as much fruit and veggies as carbs and meat. (volume wise).
And if it's only been 2 or 3 days, she's still good, as kids often "stall" once in a while.

My daughter had similiar problems. I tried cutting the prune juice with other things, like diet sprite or clear soda. Pear juice and white grape juice are also juices the doctor suggested for constipation remedy. Welch's makes a blended juice of pear and white grape. I also would massage my daughter's lower abdomin to break up or loosen the matter. Sometimes that made her a little uncomfortable but thats what the dr suggested

Warm milk, warm bath - massage the lower abdomen - this has to be done very softly.

Don't be afraid to resort to the enema.

I have 3 girls and at one point or the other they each had some sort of seperation anxiety with their poop. This is very natural. But as you know - not physically good for the child. In each case the wife gave them one of those small enemas and out came the hugest poop you could ever imagine coming out of such a small child. It's not anything that is going to scar your child trust me - it will be harder on you than it will be on them.

Last resort - see a Dr. but he's just gonna tell you what I just did.

For some children apple juice or baby food can relieve the constipation but for others can be worst. My son used to have that problem and I used pear juice or baby food twice a day for two days. When that didn't function I used a syrup name KARO, put half tablespoon in his bottle. Of Course the problem should be solve in two days max. If not talk to her doctor.

Fruit and roughage.

Let's be honest. Would you drink prune juice? No, nor would I. But orange juice blended with bran she can't even notice? Smoothies? Very trendy.Yumm.

Lots of whole grain, fruit, bran and not forgetting water. She certainly doesn't need an enema.

My 4 year old has this problem and I make sure he drinks lots of water and I add Bennfiber (sp??) to is milk or juice. It is a powder that in unflavored and non gritty and works great!! It is in a green and white tub. You can buy a huge tub of it at Costco. If you want to just try it they sell it at Target & Walmart.

Good luck!!

yes. when my son was small he used to have trouble so i used to give him a tablespoon of mineral oil in some orange juice, it worked like a charm. mineral oil is good for him as well. cranberry juice in her diet regularly should work well in keeping her regular. good luck.another little tip..if its really bad lye her flat on a bed or floor and hold her feet and gently move her knees to her stomach bac and forth that will help her muscles relax.
