"and the law on rape was a good one if you ask me.
It told women that they better fight and they better scream and they would be punished if they just let some man rape them.
Inside the city gates, if she doesn't scream. Both she and the man will be stoned.
Outside the city gates, if she screams maybe no one hears her so she shouldn't be punished. Only the man should stoned."
So you mean to tell me that if I'm dragged into an alley at gunpoint or knife point, and my rapist proceeds to hold the gun to my head/knife to my throat, and tells me if I make a sound he will kill me, it is my fault for being raped and I will be punished if I chose to be assaulted rather than lose my life? How many other Christians believe this is so? Please, a show of hands. Because a Christian woman actually just SAID this in a post, and it's a darned good thing that this is just an online forum, because if a woman actually said this to me in real life I might have to pull her hair out by the roots.

And Angel - I'm Wiccan. Just because someone disagrees with your laws doesn't make them an Atheist. There are more points of views in this world than just yours and Atheists. I happen to follow a religion that believes women are JUST as divine as MEN, but your religion doesn't understand that concept at all. Which is why I left it. And before you say I never really understood Christianity, my uncle is a retired minister and my mother is a retired church secretary. I grew up in the church.

And to those of you who said it was an Old Testament law - no f*cking duh. The woman in the post STILL thought it was a good law. And no, they did not have guns in the time of the Old Testament, but they DID have weapons, and if a woman was pulled behind a building she could very easily be killed by someone brandishing a weapon before anyone responded to her screams.

Sometimes people get so stuck on their interpretation of the ?Bible that they get to a point where things are just ridiculous. No one thinks that you blame the victim of a rape.

OK... you're talking about a law that was brought into effect for the Hebrews about three thousand five hundred years ago. Think on the time then, not the time now. Yes a woman can be afraid for her life these days. So can a man. So can a child. But thirty five hundred years ago there were no forces of law manned daily throughout the cities and countryside. The idea of electrical light was out of this world, as was a vehicle that could travel over one hundred miles in as short a time as it takes to prepare and cook then eat a meal! A city in that land of those days was equal to a small town in modern North America.
Yes the law applied to women who would not defend themselves, not to the point of death but to the point of reasonably crying for help in a community that has no white noise, no factories, no traffic of automobiles, no industrial machinations of our type; a silent life comparatively. Even a small town of North America in the third millennium is an exceedingly noisy place in comparison to what was back in the Holy land of Moses, and Arron.
If you look at the law you will find that the woman is protected!!?? Much more than other cultures of the time.
These are a people that had a simple life to yours, and no there isn't a Christian I know of that would blame you for your pains and the actions of an evil man...whether you fought with your spirit, mind, or body, or you didn't.
Go to the source of this law and investigate what was spoken and what was written before and after this point was made (rape law). DO NOT READ THE MAN/WOMAN...READ THE BOOK.

If people are watching an you are consenting it isn't rape. It is the law of Deuteronomy that a rape victim could be established from a adulterer by whether she was willing. Willing people in adultery were stoned. Simple as that. A woman accused of adultery had to be caught in the act by two or more witnesses. If she was consenting the witnesses could determine by whether or not she screamed for help. btw there were no guns at the time of Moses 1500 BC If I come upon a man with a gun on you I could easily assess it was rape for crying out loud! Use your head.

In context of the time it was written, yes it makes sense. There were no guns, and stoning was one of the most prominent ways of punishing someone. Now, i don't think it is right. If you're being attacked, and there is absolutely no way to fight it off with out getting yourself killed, then do as the man says. Our technology will let us put him behind bars, just try to get a look at his face, and immediately.

Well, aren't you sweet, you want a good old cat fight, Heh? You atheists talk about Christians being stupid, how many times must you people be told that the Old Testament was a different custom, women were treated differently than today. That was not God,s rules, that was the way man lived in those days. Do any of our laws today go by the Old Testament laws? No, then why even bring this up. Talk about being stupid.

Being stoned for rape, sounds like a rule in the day of the Romans. Does this exist today, I hope not.
I know your upset, but I didn't understand the comment made, in what context, that started this.

I believe catholics are Christian since they accept Jesus Christ! My mum is catholic and she has a really big family compared to my dad so most my family is catholic. I am a non-denominational Christian and was considering becoming catholic but then I realized staying non-denominational is the best for me.
