I have always loooved planning weddings, and themed events. I'm just wondering how to turn my hobby into a profession. Is there a college course, or is it just who you know in the industry. At the very least, where can I research this?

Take a class on "how to start a business" and take it from there. If you're passionate and hard working, there's no doubt you can become a successful wedding planner. Start by looking at this site http://learn.utoronto.ca/site3.aspx for the right class to take to get you started.

There is an Wedding Planners Association of America and Wedding Planners International. Try contacting them and you'll need to take several courses to become certified planner.

I have paid for one of those ad free websites from Yahoo and done the work myself which will save you some money but also give you a good advertising venue. Best of luck.

There is no per say, course. Just catalog all the wedding you have done, with lots of pictures and have the people whose wedding you have done spread the word, plus advertise in newspapers, Go around to the local businesses that have to do with weddings and show them your catalog (also called portfolio) and ask them if you could advertise with them also
