The antibiotics should kick in after just a few tablets but obviously, she needs to finish the whole course. You say she has been sick - if you mean physically sick like vomiting that could be the antibiotics but I would keep a close eye on that. I have had kidney infections a few times quite often, it starts as cysticis but if left untreated can travel up to the bladder and kidney. Symptons are a burning sensation when having a wee, sometimes blood in urine (because of inflamation) and being a bit shivery but, I have never been physically sick. I hope she get's well soon.

Well I had one of these and didn't even notice which was extremely dangerous because I was 5 months pregnant. What you have to look out for is a urine infection e.g pain during urination, when you pee not alot comes out even though it feels like you have a waterfall stored in your bladder and you have stomach discomfort. My kidney infection took 7 days to clear up but make sure your daughter completes the full course or it may not clear it. You mentioned she has been sick, the same thing happened to me. It may be because she has taken the antibiotic on an empty stomach. It usually says something that you should do with meals on the box. I hope she feels better soon. x

Yes I have had a kidney infection before about 10 years ago, I was 28 then. The pain i had was unbearable. I started with some pain coming from my kidney, then I had some blood in my urine, high temperature and vomiting. I had to stay in hospital because the antibiotics had to be given intravenously and doctor told me once I was discharged to drink lots of water as the infection could come back but to answer your question about the antibiotics wait at least 48 hrs for them to start working.

Oh the pain!!!! It takes a good three days and if she is being sick she needs lots of water but just little bits at a time to rehydrate. She needs to concentrate on drinking at least 2 litres a day - I bought bottled water so I knew how much I had to drink until I got used to it. They can recur so tell her lots of cranberry juice, avoid fresh orange, tight trousers, bubble baths cos these can cause cystitis which if not treated goes to the kidneys. As soon as she gets the burn when she wees or the back pain in the future, she needs to drink a pint straight off to flush her system out.
She will also need lots of sleep.

Normal. Some of the signs you have one, is lower back, or side pain, usually comes from waiting too long to go see Mrs. Jones. Its a common item in pre-teens and teens. Often related to hormonal changes! Usually takes about 2-3 days before the antiboitics take effect. 24-36 hours.

she will want to go to the bathroom a lot more than usual and if it is very bad she will have pain as she goes and will only dribble a little bit and about five minutes late she will feel the need to go again and probably have pain... the antibiotics should cut in after a few days and she will feel much better but make sure she finishes the course as it will only come back again

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

Yes, my senior year of high school - 10days worth of medicine (20pills). The first 3 days I was awake long enough to eat and take the next pill. Then the codine which I don't tolerate well kept me awake (suggesting it made a lot of progress).
