Stopped drinking alcohol in the summer, partly in support of hubby who needed to cut down or stop for heart health reasons. I used to be convinced that a drink relaxed me socially but have found I am more relaxed socially without it! Really don't miss the stuff (although I'm not averse to using it in cooking)- and certainly don't miss the hangovers. Seems to freak a few people out though, if you say you don't drink. Funny, that....lol

I gave up the drink 18 months ago. My alcoholism ruined my marriage. I had a wonderful wife that I loved very much, but the alcohol always came first. As I slowly spiraled out of reality, so did the marriage. I hit bottom when I was rushed to the ER one night. The doctors told me at the end of the next day that my BAC was .483. That would easily kill a non-alcoholic. It was either quit or die.
Now I feel like myself again. I have a new outlook on life and, thank God, I do not crave it any longer. I know I will never be "out of the woods," but I am so much happier now without that vice slowly tightening around my neck. AA is the way!
Just wish I could make it up to my X, because I still love her. I just hit my bottom a little too late. The damage was already done.

I gave it up completely over 4 years ago and now my stomach turns when I think about drinking (and especially if I smell it). There really wasn't any particular reason I quit. I guess I just figured my party days aren't any fun anymore and all I do is spend most of the time in the bathroom either peeing or throwing up, so what is the point? I felt much better after I quit..... not that I drank much anyway, just on weekends usually, but I did notice that my thinking was more clear and no more dreaded hangovers! One of the best things I ever did was quit drinking alcohol.

What's this you speak of? Giving up alcohol? Never!!!
Sorry!! Seriously, I give up after every heavy weekend but it never lasts. I used to drink 6 nights a week when I was a young 'un but I can't do that anymore. It got too much waking up with a headache and feeling rough until mid-day so I decided to knock it on the head and now it's only at the weekends. I feel much better for it and see that I can actually enjoy a job when there is no hangover.

No, never have and never will.
I find that no other beverages have the flavors and textures that alcoholic drinks contain. Wine, beer and brandy recipes date back hundreds of years. No other drinks in American society have such rich history. With this history comes millions of hours of hard work perfecting the taste.
I love the taste of a good brandy or a good beer.
I give it up now and again, though, when those around me don't drink. Often for weeks at a time, and I feel the same.

Yes. I gave up smokeing and eating bad foods also, then after two years. I visited a friend in a bar and had to have a beer, then it all came back and I went right back to it all.I felt great.while I had given it all up though. I stop drinking sometimes for months then go back but I cant stop the cigs wish I could. when I try to I just cant stand it I wont a cig so badly. all the time . so I dont put myself thru it.the drinking beer I can stop anytime. even for months.and dont crave it.It has ruined so many lifes this drinking people do.I am glad it has never hurt me to drink beer.by the way if you drink a lot of water after drinking a lot of alcohol before you go to bed you dont wake up with such a hangover Y'all.Peace.

I gave up alcohol for about 2 weeks, to give myself a mini detox. Didn't feel any different except no hangover on the weekend. But I love going out and having a drink, so it didn't last very long...

It was when I was pregnant second time, and then sleep deprivation meant I couldn't face having a drink. I really don't ever drink now and my youngest is 4. I've not got a downer on anyone else drinking, and I have the odd social drink more so people don't think I am being a misery. But I don't miss it.

I'm in the middle of a no-alcohol period right now. I set myself a target of two weeks and i'm six days in at the moment. I felt really sick for the first couple of days but that must just be coincidence because I feel fine now so I can't be an alcoholic.

it really wasnt that cool for the 1st few years but i am a total idiot without it anyway. with alcohol i can barely even function in society.
most drunks adamantly deny that they cant function, but the truth is they all have someone to leech onto or else they can barely even keep themselves drinking let alone paying bills, driving, caring for family etc...
may as well get rid of it now if you care about anything other than getting drunk.
honestly it usually doesnt feel that great, even in the long run. you dont really do it just for yourself.
you have kids? or anyone else you care about?
cuz you wont for long if you got a bad drinking problem
