It sems to me that a crank on 2007 car would be an example of unintelligent design since cranks are no longer needed.

Unintelligent design abounds in Nature.

Why do we have an appendix?
Why don't animals move about by energy efficient wheels?
Why is 90% of our DNA is junk not coding for anything?
Why do we have wisdom teeth?

No, I would pile up a bunch of parts and wait for evolution to build me a corvette.

Pain becomes growth.
Hardships become blessings.
Things that we call useless God uses for the better.

Why are modern cars 30% efficient?

Appendix:

It is open at the end that connects to the large intestine and closed at the other end, so material can move into and out of the appendix but it has nowhere to go. The appendix can contract like the small intestine, and it also has a secreting lining like the small intestine.

Wisdom Teeth:

Wisdom teeth are used for the same thing the rest of your teeth are used for...to grind your food. But they were used more before the invention of fire and cooked food. The widom teeth are suited for grinding raw meat. But since we cook our food, we don't need them.

Why didn't evolution fix that stuff? That is not the end of my answer. It is just a thought for you.
#1 It may have had a function when our body was perfect. It is not perfect anymore.
#2 Wheels are great if you are a car. God didn't make the world full of roads, so he didn't make us with wheels.
#3 You don't know it is junk. We simply don't know what it does yet. Why wouldn't evolution get rid of junk DNA? I wouldn't want to risk being born without it. It could have had a use before the fall as well. Perhaps it enabled us to live without aging.
#4 Same answer as before. Our bodies aren't perfect anymore.

That's because these things are not a hindrance to our survival.
