Patch worked for me. I did the step-down method (higher doses for a few weeks, then the lower dose for a few more). As soon as I put on that patch, I never smoked so much as a puff again. Ever. It's been 8 years now.
One thing: as soon as you put on the patch, stop saying you're "trying to quit" and tell yourself "I HAVE quit." From that moment on, consider yourself a non-smoker. Say "I just quit smoking" and never look back.

It's easy to say, and hard as hell to do, but what I did was just make up my mind and said "That's it!! I'm never going to smoke again". I also used the patches to get over the initial craving, but I was determined. I think that's the only way to go; cold turkey, with the patches, used as directed, (Not 3 today, 2 the next day, none the third, etc., and sneaking a cig every now and then). A gradual step down method with the patches, and a vow that another cigarette will never cross your lips again; that's the way I did it, and IMHO, the only way to do it for sure and for all.

However, the patches are awfully hard to light, and don't stay lit for s**t!!

I gave up with Allan Carr's Easyway to stop smoking. Its an easy read and costs less than £6 (much cheaper than patches - or cigs!). The idea of it is difficult to explain but it kind of changes your whole perception of smoking. It does sound like it won't work, but trust me it will. I didn't think it would and I've been smoke free for over a year now. Good luck what ever way you do it!

I've used both patches and the new nicorette gum. Now stopped smoking since November. If you go to a well known chemist i.e. co-op you can join their quit smoking club and get these free. You do need to give a breath test each week that will show them if you have been smoking.

Try Commit Lozenges- they get rid of the craving almost immediately. The patch never worked for me. BUT the patch is great for sleeping/dreams.... wowzers!!! Those are the craziest dreams!

I have just given up smoking once again, and I am now in my third week of abstinence.
I have had a few rocky patches, but they passed quite quickly without too much of a craving.
I thought about stopping for about six weeks, and slowly aquired an attitude to nurture myself from the tedius habit of nicotine, and all the other chemicals the culprits added.
my dear friend try to find the part of you which wants to survive, the part of you which is crying out for help.
stop one day at a time,i used nicotine gum. you can do this..come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
