When you graduate - join the U.S. Army for 3 years - Take the MOS 95 B AIT course. You will graduate from that course and be a Military Policeman for 3 years. If you choose to leave the service you will be 21 or 22 and have 3 years experience on any 21 year old who failed to go into the service. If you like the Military there is a great field MOS called 95D - which simply means Criminal Investigative Division - This school is 5 months long - when you graduate you will be a Special Agent in the U.S Army and wear a suit and tie. You will only investigate Felony crimes against the Government. You will work under the Secretary of the army. Not directly but he would be your top boss. You will have a rank for pay but your identified rank will be Special Agent. A good movie to understand how they work is called The Generals Daughter. This is an excellent field - I did it for 12 years - now I am retired with a 60 percent pension and free medical and college. Just a thought you might check into.

The biggest failure of candidates applying for Law Enforcement positions is the background. Most eliminators have to do with drug use and credit profile. There are a couple of ways to get into Law Enforcement after graduating from High School. The first is to apply to be a Police Cadet. Unfortunately, you cannot become a police officer until age 21 so you can be hired as a cadet at age 18. Another way is to get an administration of Justice degree or join the military until you reach age 21. Most police departments give extra testing points for being a veteran. Take a look at www.lvmpd.com under employment and they have the cadet position posted. I hope this helps.

Well, first thing you do is ignore everything Ronald T wrote!

Going into the military police is always an option. In addition to the MP experience you earn some GI bill college money.

A college degree is almost a must for most departments, certainly a requirement for most promotions.

If you can afford the college, skip the military. You might spend your military police time guarding POWs or escorting convoys or just guarding military stuff. Not all MP work is steet police duty.

Go to college and major in Criminal Justice! It is difficult, even in my state, to become a police officer without a degree, and if you do, that is all you will ever be!

keep your record clean. Stay in shape. Take the test. You also have to be 21 in most states. Go to Dept web sites and see what their requirements are and prepare yourself.
