We're not having a sit down meal, but serving hors dourves, around 4 p.m. What are some good ideas to serve? I'm also serving fresh fruit and I also have a chocolate fountain.

some of my favorites:

fruit kabobs
miniature quiches
fancy cheese trays
vegetable skewers (instead of a veggie tary)
tea sandwiches (crossants, pinwheels)
pot stickers with sauce
empanadas
brushetta
anything in a puff pastry
teriyaki skewers
french bread slices with dips (artichoke, spinach, etc.)

don't forget drinks! if your having a chocolate fountain, why not go for a sparkling cider foutntain too?

good luck with the planning!

If your not serving a meal can you please and try to have it early or very late?? You should NOT have it a dinner time if your not going to feed the people. I was in a wedding like this and it was terrible.... everyone left early to get REAL food and some drinks!!
The bride was crushed no one wanted to stay. Also her fault- please tell people it's just snacks so they know to EAT a large meal before you wedding or so they can make dinner plans. I just hate weddings that don't offer you a meal.

You should have a buffet and some cocktails. You don't have to have a fancy buffet but I would much rather have a sandwich then some crappy hor dourves.

Chicken fingers, little sandwiches, punch, veggie trays, cheeses and crackers. Buffet is not a good idea its more expensive to have buffet than a sit down meal because you have to supply more food than you would if you had a sit down dinner. Yeah that other girl was right you should let guest know that its just a snack and not a real meal so they will be prepared.

I was the event cordinator for a for a catering company for 2 years and I did wedding everyday.

The majority of people that have sit down dinners have something very common that just about everyone will eat like prime rib, chicken rosemary, or some type of pastas and then of course you will have your side items that fit best with whatever your main course meal is....Oh ya be sure to serve a salad before the meal

Hmmm chocolate fountain! I recommend cucumber sandwiches, a veggie platter, cheese and sausage pallter and green jello salad! You can't go wrong with that!

well, if you want to only serve hor dourves, i recommend tea sandwiches (i.e. roast beef & horseradish mayo or smoked salmon mousse and cucumber tea sandwiches). i would totally have nice chicken fingers, eggrolls, deveiled eggs, serve hot and cold appetizers, have some bruchetta and some olive/olive oil spread, hummus & pita bread, insalata caprese, maybe some bite-sized quesadillas, and definitely have lots of drinks to choose from!!!

Talk to your caterer and decide what food choices there are .
I suggest some hearty hors dourves since there will just be starters and dessert.
