My husband doesn't like our cat sleeping in our bedroom, he says it bothers his allergies. But I like having my cat with me, he is so sweet. I am not sure who I should pick between, my cat or my husband.
P.S. this is a joke, the cat is staying ;)

thebillth..., My mom really did get beat every Sunday when I was a kid, my father has a terrible temper. I was asking this question more as a joke then to be taken seriously. I am sorry if you didn't find it funny, and hope next time you can refrain from saying things that have nothing to do with my question.

You don't have to choose.

You can reduce the amount of cat dander around the house and on the cat, and your husband can get treated for his allergies.

Rinsing the cat with warm water once a month (no shampoo necessary) will cut down on dander on the cat, as will regular brushing. Fill one side of your sink with warm water, then put the cat in the other side of the sink on a rubber mat for secure footing, and gently pour cupfuls of warm water over him to rinse him off (but don't pour water over his head). Using the cup instead of noisy running water is less frightening to the cat. Dry the cat well with soft warm towels.

You can use an air purifier in the rooms the cat frequents, and use a HEPA vacuum to vacuum frequently. If possible, get rid of carpets and drapes (they hold onto dander & dust mites) and replace with wooden or tile floors and blinds that can be easily cleaned.

If allergy meds don't help your husband, or if he doesn't like their side effects, he can see an allergiest and take allergy shots to desensitize him to the cat.

If your husband's allergies are really bad, though, it may be better to keep the cat out of the bedroom. That will give him a place where he can be away from the allergens while his body is resting for 1/3 of the time.

Both - because you can treat your cat for your husband's allergies. My wife and I both have allegies to cats, and with a little work we still manage to have 3 of the little buggers running around without many medications.

Talk around to several vets in your town or area and ask about ACE Promazine and see if any of them are using this for people with allergic reactions to cats. The ACE Promazine in small doses will cut down the production of cat dander - the majour source of allergic reactions. A few drops to their moist food or even their water and you're good to go! But check and consult with a vet that has used it for the proper amount and how much to add if you're going to use it in water!

Next - baths! Yes - give the cat a bath as well as at least every-other-day groomings with a brush and a comb! My cats get a bath every 3 weeks - are taking the ACE Promazine (except Miracle our 5-moth old because she's too young yet) and we brush them at least every other day. Now from a person that could get hives just looking at a cat (not really - but I was bad!) I can actually dedicate my time to helping stray and abandoned pets at my local PetSmart by cleaning their cages and playing with them for a few hours each week! I'm headed there tonight and my only allergy meds are a once-a-day antihistamine, decongestant, Advair and a Singulair pill. I've not used a rescue inhaler in years and I'm fine :)
