My Shih Tzu recently died from a bleeding stomach ulcer. I had never known that dogs could have ulcers. He showed no signs of being ill until 1 day before his death, in fact he was gaining weight and didn't seem to be in any distress. The vet was shocked by the size of his ulcer and the fact that he showed no signs of illness. Has anyone here ever had a dog with an ulcer? If so was it treatable? Did your vet know the cause?

I have seen dogs with ulcers caused by Aspirin. They received treatment, but they did not live that long after it. I think that ulcers are just something that is very hard for dogs to fully recover from.

My dog died of that too. Was he throughing up blood? THat is a sign. I am sorry for your loss.
