good answers so far, but just a clarification - FAFSA is just an application. i think you are asking if you "get more financial aid" for being poor. it's a common misconception that FAFSA is actually the aid, when it's just an application.

since you are 25 (if i understood that correctly), you should file the FAFSA using only your income information.

Do you still live with your mother? If you do and she claims you on her taxes and works, it is a possibility you may not qualify for a large FAFSA award if she makes over a certain amount. Now, if you are an independent student, meaning you can claim yourself, then you may receive financial aid independently.

FAFSA is based on your income. If you do not have a degree, you can receive financial aid in form of a pell grant. It looks like you're 25, and they have an age cut off for pell grants, check your school. Through FAFSA, there are means of assistance in which you do not need to pay back like work study. If you apply for a loan, you will have to pay that back. Also, being that you do not have a work history, you will need a cosigner for a loan and it'll be probably your mom. Loans are not based on your income but on credit worthiness. I hope that helps.

FAFSA is based on lst years income taxes. If ur parents claimed u U must count their income.. To be an inde. student, you must be 24, married, or have kids..The smaller ur income the more aid u will get.. How much u get is based on EIC and cost of school and living expenses (including travel). Each school has a different amount they use for expenses.. GL.. student loans (unless private) are NOT based on credit
