I hate using antibotics everytime my child gets sick....I dont' know if its nessarary to treat a earache with a low grade fever with them every time... I have given her tylenol and let her lay her head on a heating pad. This morning she had a low grade fever but hasn't complained about her ear today.

Yes because it could be a viral infection, which then you need antibiotics for sure for her. It's true that ppl can get immune to antibiotics and because of that reason, dr don't prescribe them unless they are necessary. Don't make your daughter suffer because of your issues. Those symptoms can be a sign of something more serious, get it checked out and if you dont' want the meds then tell your dr and he will give you alternatives.

I can see what you're talking about. As you probably already know, antibiotics work on bacterial infections, but not viral infections (like the cold and flu). One way to tell the difference is that a viral infection hits suddenly with high fever. A bacterial infection will start with a low grade fever, and climb very slowly day after day. If your child continues with the fever, then you may consider taking her to the doctor.

If it s viral, an antibiotic won t help, however, chances are the doctor will prescribe it even if it s viral or even I it s just fluid. That s been my experience a of late. Ear infections can be a problem if left untreated, but one day typically won t hurt. Usually 24 hours give you more understanding o the situation. Pressure from a cold can often caused our ears to feel pain even if there is no fluid. You can still treat the symptom with warm pak and ibuprofen.

I'd say take her into the doctor just in case. If an ear infection getsb ad enough (which can happen super fast) it can rupture her eardrum (which is what happened to my son when I didnt think I needed to take him into the doctors).
Antibiotics suck, I know, I hardly ever give them to my son, but I won't mess around with ear infections anymore. And, it might be something that they say can be treated without antibiotics. Ask your doctor about natural remedies- ie- essential oils, etc. Or ask at a health food store, since doctors seem to like their prescription pads more than natural remedies.

If she is complaining about her ear then you should take her to a doctor. With ear infections the only way really to treat them is with antibiotics. They are not going to hurt her because it's only amoxicillian. If her ear ache went away then I would just keep giving her Tylenol until the low grade fever fades.

I would go to the Dr. A little ear infection can turn into something much bigger, as in hearing loss or language delays, if left untreated. Instead of getting antibiotics there is a new vaccine that fights against the many bacteria that cause ear infections, so you may want to ask your doctor about this.

You need to have her checked out. Too much pressure on the eardrum can cause it to burst. You also need to ask the Doctor about putting tubes in her ears. This will help tremendously with the recurrent infections.
