I place the eggs in the pot first, then add hot water (from tap), then get the water boiling on the stove.
Dont want to SUDDENLY intro an egg to boiling water (ya get probs).
Let them boil for a while (but not a ROLLING boil) soft boil. About 8 or 9 minutes.

Blondieba almost had it right excepting for the time and heat turnoff.
Cover your eggs in cold water..heat on high. The moment the lid lifts and steam escapes the water has reached boiling. REMOVE the pan immediately and set aside (lid remaining on). For eggs out of the fridge let stand for 20 minutes for hard. Eggs at room temperature should stand only 15 minutes for hard. If you like your eggs soft boiled 2 1/2 min. to 2 3/4 minutes.
Prior to turning on the heat place a container of cold water into the freezer and leave until the end of the 20 minute setting time. Upon removal of the eggs, crack the fat end (containing airspace) of each egg and drop into the water container. The quick temperature transition prevents the grayish colour that sometimes appears between yolk and white. After a very shote time (30 sec) tap the shell of each egg all over with a spoon and remove the shell. VIOLA!!! The PERFECT EGG!!
Cooking eggs in boiling water for 3 to 5 minutes makes the egg tough and rubbery and the grayish colour I mentioned has nothing to do with the freshness of the eggs.

You put your eggs in a dipper and cover with water. Put the heat on medium and let boil, when water comes to a boil, time them for 20 mins and turn off heat and cool in cold water. This is for hard boiled eggs. Enjoy.

Bring water to rolling boil. Slowly add eggs. Boil for 15 minutes (For hard boiled eggs). Peal. This way the shells do not stick....even if they are fresh eggs.

Place in saucepan. Put cold water over them (enough to cover eggs), add lots of salt to water (helps shell come off easier), bring water to rolling boil on high heat, reduce heat to medium and boil for 10 to 15 minutes.
