You can never tell just by looking. Two weeks ago I had every single symptom of strep, by the book, but a rapid strep test turned out negative, and my mono test turned up positive.

You can get a blood test done at any doctor's office and they'll send it to a lab to check for mono antibodies. Since mono doesn't always have symptoms at all, you may have it, and it may be weakening your immune system (which would explain why you're more susceptible to whatever infection is causing the sore throat), or possibly your symptoms are symptoms of the mono itself.

It's definitely better to be safe than sorry. Mono is generally not super serious but it can cause complications, so getting a blood test would give you a conclusive answer.

Also, agreeing with the first answer... gargle with salt water. But add a teaspoon of baking soda (to one cup of water). It sounds gross but it really doesn't taste like anything, and the baking soda sort of softens up that white gunk on your throat and helps it come off faster. Try not to swallow it, though. And the water should be amost hot... just hot enough that it's not in the slightest way painful to gargle with... like a hot, but drinkable, cup of tea. (Drink a lot of warm liquids too.)

Sounds like strep to me. There isnt always a fever associated with strep in some people. Sometimes you can have strep and not have a sore throat but have diarrhea instead. Make sure you take all of your antibiotics and if your throat is still sore, go back to the doctors for additional testing.

Gargle with some warm salt water. Feel better.

nicely do not leap to strep and mono rapidly, it would want to easily be a nasty summer season chilly. relax for an afternoon or 2 and see the way you experience. If it were strep the sore throat woudn't have lengthy gone away, its probable only a nasty virus. Make some fowl soup and drink a lot of fluids, take some tylenol or motrin to help with the aches and fever.

You could have both at the same time. You might even need a stronger antibiotic. It happened to a friend of mine. In a few months ask your doctor to do a Hererophile blood test. If you had Mono, the antibodies will show up in your blood. You could have Mono without ever knowing it, but if you had it, the antibodies will show up forever.
