I'm considering buying vonage, but don't know too much about it. Can someone who has it please let me know if it's a good product to buy and how it works?

I have vonage and it's wonderful. But when you get vonage you will either have to but one of there phones or a router because you phone line is running from you modem. You do have to have high-speed internet to get vonage, but actual phone service wise it does save you alot of money. The best bet is if you have cable internet. With DSL you have to have a phone line to get you DSL through. You cannot just have DSL with no phone service. At least no where that I have looked. One thing to consider is How much are you paying for you land line, internet and long distance. For example if you are paying $100 for all three then I would definitely see how much the long distance is costing you and if vonage runs less then that amount I would definitely consider getting vonage.

Vonage is great! I've been using it in Virginia for 18 months along with comcast high speed internet and it works great.

You need to have high speed DSL internet or Cable internet. When you sign up vonage will send you a device that will allow you to hook up your internet and phone to it. It works with any phone, and essentially your phone call wlll be sent over the internet instead of over the phone line. That means when your internet doesn't work, or your power, your phone won't work either, so make sure you have a reliable provider. That will also solve the static and other issues people have had. Those problems are with their internet provider, not vonage.

I have the unlimited $24.99 plan and my bill has never been more than $28 (they do have federally mandated fees now, but they are still far less than other phone companies).

As far as 911 calling goes, you have to keep you address current with vonage and tell them where your phone is residing, otherwise 911 service won't detect where you're calling from. This is because vonage has the cool feature of being able to take it anywhere there is internet. You can take your vonage box and hook it up to any internet and make and receive calls as though you were at home. That's pretty cool.

Other cool things: you can add phone numbers in just about any area code you want so family can call you locally. You can have your voicemail sent to your email, or check it online, or on your phone. You can set up any number of multiple numbers. You can set up simultaneous ringing to your cell phone, or call forwarding with a few simple clicks on their website. Just imagine, instead of talking to "customer service" you just log into the website and make any adjustments to your plan that you like! Genius!

So you can see I love it, and I wanted to provide a great review to contrast those bad ones posted before.

we have vonage. at certain times of the day the phone reception is lousy. Especially when other people are using their computers. The so-call free month-I am still waiting for it. The fee they advertise end up to be almost $3l.00 with the extra fees. Have fun when you try to talk to someone from customer service-I think the call goes to India or someother country like that Alot of time it sounds like you are talking in a fish bowl and the other people can not hear you so I end up using my cell phone. You need internet service to have vonage

We tried it for about 6 months, then gave up. Very noisy reception. they tack on extra fees and taxes that they didn't discuss in the beginning. when we found out that calling 911 doesn't work, that was the last straw. Our neighbor 3 houses down, had Vonage and the firemen could not locate his house and sadly he died in the blaze.

Don't use Vonage! I was told there was no contract and when I went to cancel when we moved and for lousy reception, they told me I'd pay an early termination fee. I'm stuck paying for this lousy service until the contract is up. It's not worth the pennies you might save, and when the internet goes out, so does your phone. Disgusted.

The new Vonage advertisement ( related to the Bundle) may be viewed as offensive and pro-choice (not pro-life), suggest stop airing it immediately
