What are the best walks in New York? I hear there are so many streets that I just have to walk down. Can any New Yorkers fill me in on the best walks?
Also, what do I need to know. I am looking for the best tips that will help me not only prepare for my trip, but make it the best.

Missy: What are you interested in? There are areas that are great for shopping/window shopping, areas that have beautiful old brownstone houses, arty areas, people watching areas, the Theatre District, ethnic areas like Chinatown, if you're interested in sewing, the garment districts has shops that sell beads, lace and fabrics, there are areas with a lot of history, beautiful scenery> What sort of things would you like to see?

Downtown try along The Esplanade in Battery Park City, or on Fulton Street from the World Trade Center site to the South Street Seaport.

Take an "Adventure on A Shoestring" tour. They meet on Saturday afternoon in different spots. Cost about $5. Call 212-265-2663 for reservations/information.
Also google NYC sidewalk walks for a list of books, tips. etc.

I like walking restaurant to restaurant on 9th street in Manhattan in Hell's Kitchen. Lots of cheap eats!

Walk across the brooklyn bridge at night.
If you are driving, drive on the bqe (brooklyn-queens expressway in any direction) at night and you can see nyc skyline and buildings over the water.
