Kids can have fun anywhere. Sticks, leaves, dirt and rocks will entertain them for hours. Add a tent, camp fire, small creek, wildlife, short hike, etc. and you'll have memories to last a lifetime.

It depends on what you are looking for and where you live. There are many campgrounds in the USA. National Parks are nice, but there are also state and local parks.
It also depends on what you are looking for. There are some campgrounds which are basically like a small (sometimes large) city. It can be noisy. KOA campgrounds, based on my experience, are often like that. A friends really likes to stay at them, but most are near major highways which means lots of noise. One we stayed at was away from a highway, so they put in a large, bright light to make up for it, which makes a tent glow really nicely, but it is hard to sleep. There are some that are good though.
Personally, I would try a National Park since often there are places to see and things to do. When I go camping, I like to get away from things of the city. A lake is nicer than a pool :-).
