If she hasn't been vet checked, try this first. Worms are oftentimes the reason, yet not unavoidably. My 4 year previous cat does it on social amassing and that i think of that's merely simply by fact he has an itch and rubbing the tough carpet is equivalent to scratching. None of my different cats have shown that variety of habit. he's healthful aside from being a sprint obese and there is no obvious reason different than what I merely defined. perhaps that's greater sturdy for him to bathe down there reason in the back of his plump abdomen. The sight is rather icky, even although that's probably the few inconveniences to having him around. He makes up for the grossness along with his lovable antics and candy character. I think of sooner or later while he's long gone i'm going to even omit seeing his butt scooting around the floor.

Several things can make a cat scoot their butts accross the floor:
1) worms (esp. tape worm)
2) impacted anal sacs - these are tiny glands on either side of the cat's anus. If you look closely (at the cat's butt), you'll see tiny holes - one on the right and the other on the left of the anus. Sometimes these holes get "plugged" and the glands can't express themselves. The pressure is very uncomfortable to the cat. T relieve himself, the cat will scoot his butt accross the carpet or floor. You can "express these anal sacs yourself by gently pressing the sides of the tiny holes.
3) marking territory. Cats use both urine and feces to advertize their presence to other cats - they will do this especially when they see another strange animal n their environment.
4) Cat's butt needs cleaning and the cat is too fat to reach his own bottom - he'll find somethig else to wipe his butt with

You need to check her anal glands to see if they are full. This sounds gross - but we have to do this to our boy cat and I've heard from many on here that females can ahve the same issue. You have to gently squeeze the anal gland and see if anything shoots out. Typically we do this to Cupid every 3 weeks since he gets a bath at that time - but I'd check this under a controlled situation - such as placing the cat in a bathtub and having one person hold her firmly while other does the dirty work.
Sorry - it's gross I know - but if not treated they can have problems later on, especially in male cats!

Most likely she picked of parasites (unless you recently took her to the vet you need to consider this). Otherwise its because her stool is a little wet and she is actually cleaning off the feces on your carpet. You may want to try to change her diet so that her stool is firmer. If you are feeding her wet cat food then cut back the amount/eliminate it. If you have already eliminated the canned food, then maybe you should try a different brand/formula of food.

You need to take her to a vet to have her anal glands drained. Its not painful but it is a disgusting job. Fortunately all vets do it and its quite inexpensive. It's not an operation, they just need to know where to press on the gland to get it to release. It causes a lot of discomfort for the animal and that's why it is skirting the floor so the sooner you have it done the better.

Doesn't sound like marking to me.
Sounds like she has an impacted anal gland. It's probably really uncomfortable and you should have it expressed by a vet or groomer.

Mine does that too. She's had her hiney checked countless times by the vet, with no problems found.
I figure she just dislikes licking her own butthole, and has instead come to rely on my carpet as a grooming tool. Joy.

HI
They have anal glands and could be marking also could have worms and itching it on your carpet. Worm her and then stop her when you catch her doing it, some people spray bitter apple or vinegar down on their carpet as a deternt but they stink too.
