Of course NOT only hypochondriacs are allergic to peanuts! And TRUE allergies (including peanut allergy) can develop anytime - and can often be proven with blood tests. I was diagnosed at age 30. My allergist told me that adult of almost any age can develop new allergies at any time. I did not choose to be allergic to peanuts or other nuts for that matter. They are in a lot of stuff. Why would I want to think I was allergic? After some reactions, a blood test was done, and there was the proof.

Peanut allergies are serious and can be deadly. If you did some research you would know the risks. Where were you when that young girl died in Canada last year when her boyfriend kissed her after he had eaten a peanut butter sandwich. She was allergic to peanuts! You don't have to ingest them to have a severe reaction. Cross contamination can often do the trick. Start reading the labels on back of your food products from chips to cookies , candies, and even some juices. Warning labels will warn those potentially allergic do to the fact that some products are produced in the same factory as products that contain peanuts and or tree nuts (pecans, walnuts etc).
