I know some people get dark circles from time to time but my dad's eyes are really bad. His whole eye areas are greyish-black, not just under the eye but all around. Could it be something medical?

Dab vasaline (dont rub) under your eyes before bed, you can put it on your lips too! This is a trick models use, do this nightly and hopefully he'll never get the dark or puffy circles again. I had the same problem until I found out about this!

Almost everyone gets dark circles under their eyes from time to time. Dark circles under eyes usually are temporary and not a medical concern.

You may be surprised to learn that fatigue usually isn't the cause of dark circles. Instead, the most common cause is nasal congestion. When your nose is congested, veins that usually drain from your eyes into your nose become widened (dilated) and darker.

Another cause of undereye circles is eyelid swelling during sleep. When you lie down, gravity can cause fluid to collect in your lower eyelids. This swelling may create the appearance of shadows below your eyes. In addition, dark circles can result from chronic skin conditions, such as atopic eczema. Dark circles can also run in families.

It could definitely be medical but only a doctor can say for sure. It is quite common to see that 'racoon' look on people who fast for periods of time w/o eating meat. It could be an iron deficiency or it could just be exhaustion and fatigue.
Is he an allergic person? Those dark circles often characterize a person who suffers from sinus allergies.

There are many causes of dark circles, from age, heredity, allergies, cold or sinus infection, bone structure and glasses which are not so commonly known.

If you would like to apply home remedies to reduce dark circles, here are some of my suggestions:
•Powdered fenugreek and milk are said to tackle dark circles. Apply a paste of fenugreek mixed in milk on dark circles in the night. Wash off in the morning and watch dark circles vanish for good.
•Take a teaspoon of tomato juice, a few drops of lemon juice, a pinch of turmeric powder (if you are not allergic to it) and a little flour, enough to make a paste.

If his eyelids are very white inside, it could be anemia. But if your dad isn't tired all the time, or moody...it probably is just the way his eyes are. :)

Yes, it could. I couldn't tell you what it is exactly, but he should see a doctor.
