I would guess it's true. It all depends on the bar/restaruant. I live my life like that for a while when I was waiting tables, but the bartenders were always at the parties.

It was true when I tended bar at Hammerjacks in Baltimore. I simply chose not to indulge in the drug scene.
It is a very social job, so you meet alot of folks of the opposite sex.
You really need to keep track of your cash or it will flow right out as fast as it came in (or faster) and you will be left with no idea how much you made or where it went. As you always have cash and it may never be filtered through a bank accout for recording purposes.

It is a blast. I have great memories.

Bartenders live all sorts of different lives. I know bartenders who don't drink or party at all, and I know others who party all the time. It depends on the person, just like with everything else.

I bartended for a while. Its a job just like any other, but with different hours. For me it was a very social and enjoyable experience. You should treat it as professionally as you would any other job.
