They are strong, tough, intelligent, courageous, loyal, enthusiastic, agile, and obedient dogs.

You'd be surprised to learn that to learn that there are a lot of Pit
Bulls out there that act as therapy dogs. These dogs bring
entertainment, companionship, affection, and unconditional love to people in nursing homes, mental health facilities, hospitals, and prisons. Therapy Dogs are very stable, friendly, and well-trained.

Because they are very loving and loyal pets. I adore them. There are two reasons why they have such a bad reputation: 1) Too many people get pitbulls for the wrong reason, and raise them to be fighters and to be vicious. 2) The media jumps when they hear a bad story about a pitbull. There are MANY other cases where dogs of other breeds attack & kill people, but they aren't reported nearly as much as pits. I have two of them and they have NEVER once even growled at a person. They love everyone.

Because they are very lovable and loyal dogs with a very bad reutation. Like any dog, it depends on how you raise them as to how they behave. I have one, and it is absolutely the most lovable dog in the world. My sister has a 1 year old, and a newborn, and my mother has a 17 month old baby, and I have no qualms about letting mine play in the same room with the babies, nor do my sister or my mother. If you raise a dog to be vicious, it will be. I can make a yorkie vicious if I wanted it to be, but you wouldn't be afraid to pick it up if you walked through my front door would you? No, you would bend over and scoop it right up, and then I could say sic, and it would bite off your bottom lip. There is nothing wrong with pitbulls, and I wish people would understand that.

Up Thur the 60's they were the #1 family dog. Three presidents as owned them while in the white house, they have been owned a many well known personalities. They are smart and when trained right are good with kids and other animals. Starting in the 70's they became the most abused breed of dog turning some into dangerous monsters. We, meaning our culture as decide to make them the fall guy for the humans that treat them in a shameful manner and make them monsters. God knows we should not make the real monsters, humans, pay the price. We just ban the breed and let the bad guys do it to another breed

I too volunteer at shelters. I have never had a bad experience with a "pitbull." However, I am just as cautious with them as I am with any other dog. I have seen many more problems with, and am much more afraid of, chi's. If you take a look, very few of the pit bulls or other bully type dogs are marked "behavioral."
In fact, many people have a hard time selecting the real American Pit Bull Terrior. Take the Pit Bull test here, yourself.

Because when raised right they are by far one of the greatest dogs. By their breed standard they are one of the best kid and family dogos you could find. They are extremely loyal loving and devoted dogs. The one we have is the sweetest most loving and dedicated dog you could find. My Lab who is alot younger then him is the alpha and they are the best of friends. Our Pit lives for kids and we can take him any where around any dog. The problem is the wrong people get these dogs and train and breed for aggression, they are not mean or nasty dogs by nature. Most experienced and knowledgeable dog trainers and vets will tell you they are great dogs, like Cesar Milan and there is no one better than he. People just need to stop being ignorant and believing everything they see on TV. Do think everyone of a certain race is bad because they may commit more crimes than another?

The better question is...Why WOULDN'T anyone want a pit bull? My guess is that most people who wouldn't are just listening to the sterotypes and have little or no experience with the breed. They are loyal, fun loving, low maintence, and FANTASTIC with children. This is all dependent on the owner of course.

I work at an animal shelter and deal with thousands of dogs each year. I have been bit countless times through fear or aggression, but not ONCE by a pit bull. Good luck, maybe. Good training and extra cautiousness on my behalf, maybe. Just a coincidence, maybe. Or maybe they aren't really as bad as the media leads most to believe.

I have a Staffie at home and he's fantastic with my other two dogs as well. He just can't get it through his head when the other two DON'T want to play anymore.

Because when they're raised like any other normal loving dog, they are loyal and loving pets just like any other dog.

The problem comes in when ignorant people decide to train their dog to be mean, or when they let their kids poke the dog in the eye and be mean to the dog. Any dog breed will react that way under those conditions, it's not just pitbulls.

Pitbulls are great dogs, but they're not for people who are not ready to invest the time to properly socialize them and be the pack leader. This is true for all dominant breed dogs.

Not all pitbulls are mean. If bred well and raised well, they can be wonderful pets. Personally I would never own one because I just wouldn't take the chance that mine would turn out to be a killer.
