What can possibly be so good about a corkscrew that costs that much?

Warren, it's similar to this one http://www.winestuff.com/acatalog/Screwpull_Elegance_Lever_Model.html

MP you made me laugh. I guess I'm trying to romance my spouse.

zanti3 - I'm 100% woman. You made me laugh! I just want something high quality that won't fail and won't rust. It's just that some things are all hype and not really worth the money.

that's a bit much. You can get a decent rabbit brand opener for under 100 that does the same thing. I work in Napa and the wine guys at napa's copia museum like the rabbit from metrokane. Most of their models are half the price and just a nice. MOst come with foil cutters, extra corksrews etc. I usually give the Silver classic set as wedding gifts for $50 - 60.

The last poster is getting to the real issue. Are you trying to impress some chick? If so, anyone that impressed by such a pricey item (especially when a $5 winged corkscrew is pretty much foolproof) is bound to be trouble in the long run. Think "golddigger". Think "really expensive divorce".

I personally would not. You can get a $5-$10 wine bottle opener that works just as well; the $150 is for the name-brand label or external appearance, but it functions just as well as a $5-$10 opener. I'd save your money for something else.

You have not provided a link to the product, so we cannot evaluate it on its merits.

I have thousands of bottles of wine in my cellar, and have a number of implements for opening, decanting, recorking and serving my wine, some of which cost far more than the $150 you refer to.

In my kitchen, I have a solid brass estate opener that sits atop an oak tripod. It both opens and recorks bottles of wine. It costs well in excess of $150, but over the years has provided far in excess of that amount in service and conversation value.

Anything more than the standard corkscrew has to be evaluated on aesthetic and conversation value.

You can get an excellent wine bottle opener at Costco for MUCH less. No need to spend $150 unless you have money to burn.

I would NEVER spend that much on a wine bottle opener! Unless I was rich! ;-)

No. Go for the simple $6.00 item that all the waiters use, available in any better food store.

I don't think so, unless it would be a great conversation peice. My old-school opener works every time. It's your money.
