1. Because you live in this environment. Think of a fish in a tank of water, peeing and pooping all the time. It actually lives in its own waste and needs YOU to clean out the tank once in a while. We need to do the same with our environment. You can't keep adding waste to your environment without eventual, unpleasant consequences.
2. It saves you money. Use less electricity and your bills go down.
3. You are not just inheriting the plant from your parents, you are borrowing it from your children. Morally, it is the right thing to do!

This sounds like an exam question, but it's an important issue, so I'll bite.

1. We all live on this planet. If we don't look after it, we can't really move, now can we.
2. Causing pollution causes global warming, which causes climate change, which causes droughts, floods, heatwaves, etc. So if we don't, we're hurting ourselves directly.
3. Climate change along with deforestation and water-pollution forces people off the land they have lived on for centuries, condemning them to lives of poverty and hardship in the city. These conditions lead to anger and frustration, which are ripe breeding grounds for terrorists to recruit more terrorists.

That's my take on it, anyway...

1. The cost of being environmentally responsible is cheaper than the cost of being environmentally irresponsible. For example, spending money to build better levvies in New Orleans would've been cheaper than repairing the flooded city after Katrina.

2. Being a good steward of the environment leaves a legacy of a clean environment to future generations.

3. The Earth has finite resources. If we don't conserve them and replace them, we will exhaust them.
