For those that don't know what a scientific theory actually is, I'm just gonna dumb this one down to your level, and we'll just call evolution a "theory", assuming that it is, in fact, a wild guess. (Which is what a lot of the believers here seem to think it is)
Please explain why you believe Intelligent Design is a proven fact, while Evolution is just a "theory"...
My point being, there is no evidence supporting Intelligent Design, so why is it that you are so sure that it's a fact? Meanwhile, the proven "theory" of evolution conflicts with nothing, and is the basis for just about every life science out there today.
So I'm curious how one can justify that in his own head...

Kenny P - I'm well aware that it's called a theory. Bone up on my facts, indeed. :) Trust me, you don't want to go a round with me, Francis... :)

There is no inherent conflict between evolution and intelligent design. Evolution is as strong a theory as exists in science. Could it be wrong? Of course it could be, but so could the theory of Gravity. The evidence mounted in support of these theories is overwhelming and really quite foolish for any Christian or other believer to dispute. There is nothing, however, in evolution that discounts God. Evolution is simply the method we see in operation bringing about the existence of the many species. There is actually plenty of reason to believe that God's hand is behind the process of evolution itself. I will give one example: The most significant difference in the genetic code between humans and chimpanzees exists at gene #2. Chimps actaully have gene 2a and 2b. The human gene #2 is thought to be an evolutionary fusion of these two genes which gives rise to weaker jaws and larger brain capacity. The interesting thing is that the fusion actually weakens the likelihood of survival in the short run (due to the weaker jaw), but increases the likelihood in the long run (due to the larger brain). This is unusual in an evolutionary sense since evolution arises from adaption to the current (short run) environment. Perhaps we are seeing evidence of God's hand (intelligent design) right in the midst of evolution. Science and faith need not be opposed. If both are honestly and openly seeking truth, then both will lead to the same place.

Intelligent Design is not a proven fact any more than Evolution Theory is. (I have yet to see where science has made the statement that it is a proven fact and that it conflicts with nothing)
Intelligent Design is based on a belief or faith and has nothing to do with scientific proof and should not be associated with proof. Religion is a belief system.
Scientific theories change all the time. (Notice the phrase..."We now know...") It is arrogance to say that something is now proven to be fact when new evidence reveals old theories are oftentimes flawed.

The notions in the Bible supporting creationism is proprietary. In other words, you have to believe in that book to be swayed by it because all the information is found only in there. There are no supporting or parallel and independent writings outside of the Bible (excluding the Jewish texts and the Koran).
While evolution is an on-going process, it therefore remains a theory, but only in the process of change. Evolution is a true and accurate process in the developments of this world's organisms.

A theory is not a wild guess. It is well thought out beyond the bounds of a Hypothesis. The only problem is it can not be replicated ,so it stays a theory. That's why the tremendous angst
to find a missing link.Of all the millions of fossils, you'd think there would be just one transitional form ....but there ain't.
God told us He created. He didn't tell us how, just how long.I personally think 7 days is too much time for God .He could of done it in a milli-second.I also believe the Genesis creation was a Re-creation.That's why He tells Adam to REPLENISH the Earth. But ,hey ,that's just me.

The problem is, when you start with the Bible and say that it is fact and reality is the fantasy, then you can justify all sorts of crazy things in your mind.
The earth appears old? God made it that way to test your faith.
Evolutionists discard theories that didn't work out? They're not being intellectually honest - they're actually furthering the hoax by burying the ideas that didn't fit reality.
Dinosaur bones date to millions of years ago? Carbon dating is a tool of the devil.
The list goes on. Faith does not consider what reality says. Faith says, "I believe..." and reality just has to get out of the way or be spat upon.

Nearly all Scientists that sipprt evolution admit to it's being a theory.
You should bone up on your facts
One big point that they cannot overcome so far is that there are no "in between" fossils. We have the early ones and the animals of today.......but no connecting animal fossils
BTW...While I do believe Creation to be fact, I have no problem with your calling it a "theory". I do wonder though why you ( or at least those supporting evolution ) are afraid of Creatoin "theory" and refuse to let it be offered as an alternative theory in teachings.
Are you afraid we might get your theory thrown from the classroom?
We aren't trying to do that....we have no problem with both being presnted
Why do you?

When we talk about intelligent design you must consider the inprobability of evolution. Theres a greater probability for a tornado to hit a junk yard and form a jet plane than it is for the big bang to occur. Only logical to assume God created to complex solar system and human body

Many will tell them that their bible tells them, and that's all the proof they need. But the fact is that their church tells them. The bible doesn't specifically deny any room for the possibility of evolution. The church needs people to band together for something (that by the way has been a dead issue until recently pulled out of the trash by the fundamentalists,) to keep them occupied while they pull the strings behind the scenes.

Intelligent Design is a 'God of the Gaps' argument in more sophisticated form. The trouble with these arguments is that they reveal the inherently anti-intellectual nature of the "believer". It requires that one not seek knowledge, because each new piece of knowledge diminishes the domain of such a God. Thus, such arguments not only do not but cannot offer a testable hypothesis (what most people mean when they say "just a theory") of their own. Sad.

> "How can you look outside of your window and believe that it all just happened? It is impossible for all of this not to be created. I have faith in my beliefs. You can argue, but my faith is way too strong to be changed."
This is the argument from personal incredulity: "I personally cannot understand how it happened, so it must be magic". It doesn't explain life any more than it explains Penn and Teller's act.
