We have two maltese-pug cross pups, brother and sister, they are around 14 weeks old. Whenever we show attention to the girl, the boy becomes very jealous, tries to push her away and get in between her and my wife and I. Then he will attack her when we put her down again. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to discourage this behaviour from the boy?

I believe it is more jealous rough play rather than full on attacking. He has grown a lot more than her so his physical size makes it look worse than it is maybe.

I would have to actually see the behavior. After all is it truely "attacking" or just "jealous play".
Our female dog jumps on either of our two larger male dogs when they get attention, and even trys to pull them away from us. I just continue giving the male dogs attention, and hold off the female with the other hand. Our males tend to be much too polite to the female for her own good, and will pretty much let her have whatever she wants even to their own detriment.

Dogs need a clear alpha-dog, one who's the boss, and naturally this would be the boy. Try giving attention to the boy first then the girl. This way the male understands that he is first but that the female gets attention too. Once you establish a routine with them it should stop.
