If you can see both ends of the broken tape just use a small piece of scotch tape to piece them back together. If you can't see them then open up the tape by unscrewing each corner and then doing the same method. That is what a repair company is going to do. If I were you I would convert your VHS to DVD with your computer. It's not an expensive or difficult process. Go to www.download.com for good programs.

yes if you have a little bit of patience and a steady hand you can do it yourself. Let me try to lead you through the procediour. Put the tape face down on the table with the broken band towards you in the middle of the tape towards the back you will find a small hole insert into this a small screw driver or any sharp instrument, this is to release the two brakes that are holding your tape tight,at the front of your tape at the right hand side is a very small butten look carefully you will find it press this and the cover of your tape is released, overlap the two ends of the broken tapeand cut them through with a sharp scisser or razer blade you can now join the two ends together with very fine tape starting with first one side...you join it of course from the innerer side of the tape......the second half of the tape is then matched exactly to the half that you have already applied the tape to make sure the the sticking tape is not wider than the vhs tape ok dont remove the screw driver just yet leaving the tape on the table you wind the vhs tape back into its box with you finger or thumb first one side then the other untill the tape is back in place remove the screw driver....put the tape into your recorder on fast forward when it gets to the end of the tape it will return Automaticly to the beginning of the tape , the reason you do this is to make the tape tighter as it should be ok I wish you a lot of luck and pleseant viewing. if you dont have the nerve to fix it yourself normally any vidio shop for a small price will fix it for you ok bye bye

Find a local Ritz Cameras, Wolf Cameras or Kits cameras or some other photo lab. Many of them offer that kind of service from their outlab, meaning they'll have to send it out and it may take a while. It's usually not worth it unless there's something sentimental on the tape.
