I don't care if it's good with other dogs - just kids. I know of some, I just want to see what other people think. I'm available on Yahoo msgr is anyone wants to talk.

Believe it or not but both Rotties and Pit Bulls are excellent family dogs. Pit Bulls I know absolutely adore kids. I have seen kids trample all over Pits and the Pits just smile like they love it. Actually Pit Bulls have very high pain tolerances so dealing with kids is like a cakewalk.

If your greatest concern is that the animal love and protect your children, I recommend one of the big, working breeds:

Burmese Mountain Dog
Great Pyranese
NewFoundland
St. Bernard

No matter the breed, a young dog or puppy should never be too skittish. Look for a happy, playful puppy that shows some interest in you, a new person. Also, some adult dogs are more tolerant than puppies, even though kids seem to bond more deeply with puppies that they have helped raise.

English Springer Spaniel. Ours is great with our 20month old daughter. However, all dogs can suddenly attack if they are being frightened or hurt or tormented as kids tend to try to do to them. I would NEVER leave a dog and child unattended, even if the dog has never shown signs of aggression, if provoked they will eventually loose their temper which can have tragic consequences. Also a dog is only as good as there upbringing, you should train your dog thoroughly, if you do this your dog will be a much loved and treasured part of the family

my partner has a King Charles Spaniel, before we got together i had a total distrust of ALL dogs, but Murphy (the dog) has a temperament that I could not begin to describe, he's a really loyal dog and is great with children, Ive actually never heard him growl in anger and his tail is constantly wagging..
But......... like most animals , if they are treated correctly and given the love that you would like given to you they develop that temperament, Whatever advise you do get, and some can be suspect, stay away from the pit bulls etc, DO NT PUT YOUR CHILDREN AT ANY RISK NO MATTER HOW SMALL.

I would highly recommend a flat coated retriever.

My family have had four of them over the years. The first they bought when I was only 3 months old. I'm now 40 so I've had one of these dogs around me all of my life.

They are very fun loving, optimistic natured and friendly dogs and they are absolutely wonderful with children. There is no malice in them at all.

Highly recommended!!

English Shepards would be my pick. I have one that is very loving and gently. Collies are another breed that are great with children. They say you can train them to walk through baby chicks and not hurt them. We never tried it, but we were able to walk the perimeter and put down markers and teach him he wasn't to go past our yard that way. Blood hounds are good with kids, but they are really big if you have small kids. However, my year old neice comes over and pulls on the hounds ears and kisses him, so I guess you can teach them to be easy with babies too. I have had each of these dogs and have kids. My experience with all of them has been positive.

Jack Russel Terriers are great with kids. Also - I have heard that Bull Mastives are great with children too.

And of course everyone's favorite dog - The Lab. They are really good dogs. I remember my friend's dog Fluffy, a black Lab mix. He was the best dog ever
