I think it would be a great idea for a Wedding dress! My father was just talking about the afterparty he wants to have after the reception at my wedding, and asked me if I wanted to have clothes to change into at their (my parent's) house so I wouldn't have to go home to change. I told him once I got that dress on, I was not going to take it off, considering what I paid! I would be leary about buying a dress online b/c of the sizing..what if there was a problem? But if I could go to a store to try it on...awesome. I would suggest doing the alterations on-site. Hire someone, unless you are a seamstress. I saw my dress at two bridal stores, and went with the slightly more expensive one because she does the alterations herself.
I would think the bridesmaid's dresses would be a little more difficult. Most brides want their bm's to match, at least in color, and it would be difficult to get the number of dresses in the color and size you wanted secondhand. Plus, some bm's would probably refuse to wear secondhand where as others wouldn't want to wear anything but...what bride wants that stress?
But if you could get bridesmaid's dresses, you could alter and re-sell them as prom dresses or evening gowns.
If you do go through with this, first of all I wish you the best of luck it's a great idea, but second I would caution you to be VERY selective about which dresses you buy back. The quality of what you sell is going to speak measures about your store and if quality is low, business will be low.

I think it is a good idea if the price is right and you love the dress. Both times I have got married I have put the dress away aftewards and it never sees the light of day again. The first one eventually went grey and when I got divorced chucked it out and the second one is languishing in a chest. You could even sell it on again afterwards.

Sounds like a great idea, I saw the dress of my dreams in the shop when I was getting married then discovered a girl at my mums work had worn the exact dress for her wedding and was selling it I got the perfect dress for less than half the price.

I think that you should do well with this type of business if you are in a large metro area. It would not work well in a small town...everyone would know the dresses story and some might not be happy.
I suggest that for each dress you compose a short (and happy) history to give when you present each dress to a prospective customer. They will love the romance!! :)

Great idea, if I was getting married I would defiantly have a look in a shop like that first before spending so much money on a new wedding dress.

i bought a second hand bridesmaid dress and flower girl dress for my wedding a good lot of years ago and they were lovely , the flower girl dress was too short but i was able to get the same material and lengthen it ,also there was peach rose buds on the bridsmaid dress and the girl who owned the shop was abel to give me some more of those rose buds and then i could sew them on to my wedding dress. and no one even knew that the dresses were second hand and my wedding was really lovely and one of the best days of my life.

GREAT IDEA! With dresses costing WAY TOO MUCH..I would look in a store like you're thinking of opening first. Why spend an arm and a leg when you can save that money for something else...like an up-graded honeymoon!

YES, but I am very cheap and would want a really good deal. Like if the dress was originally $1,200, I would only want to pay $200 maybe $300 if you had already cleaned the dress.

Absolutely - as long as they were the dresses I wanted. They have only been worn once so if you find your perfect dress online what a bonus that you will probably save you some money that you can spend on your honeymoon!!
Good Luck for the special day!
