I just got this camera the other day as a late christmas present, and I absolutely love it except, I'm not very intelligent when it comes to things like this. So my question is... is it possible with the color accent to get one's eye color to stand out and make everything else black and white??? Any comments would help.

Absolutely. That's a perfect use for the Color Accent Mode. My G7 has the same feature. The only thing I'd mention though is that color accent will color in everything in the picture that shares that same color. If you have brown hair and brown eyes, there will be alot of brown coming through in addition to the eyes...some of the hair...some of the skin...etc. Blue eyes would work well. Uh...red eyes could work too. :) You get the idea.

As for how specifically to get it to work, switch to the color accent mode, and press the display button so you will see down at the bottom of the screen which color is currently selected as the accent color (defaults to green). If you want to, for example, catch someone's blue eyes, get close enough to the color sample so that you can fill the focus rectangle with the intended color sample, and press the left arrow buttonto take a color reading. Presto, you've changed the color accent. Now pull back and try a shot. It will flash between the color and black & white/accent views to give you an idea of what's being highlighted. It's a neat trick.

Alternatively, if you have an application that does post-processing (PP) like photoshop, you *could* do this edit in that program in pp. You can make masks to prevent the eye from being affected by a B&W effect. The benefit of doing it in post processing is that you can apply filters to make the black and white portion of the image more "constrasty," and have particular features stand out more in black and white (you ever notice how contrasty the ansel adams prints are...you can mimic that kind of result with appropriate use of filters), in addition to the accent color. In addition, pp will take care of any color eyes, and it doesn't matter if their skin/hair/clothes are the same color

But personally, I don't like to post-process to much...it's more fun for me to do it in camera, and not have to sit in front of a computer. So, I like fiddling with color accent. flowers are good...red cars/bikes...a pretty purple dress...whatever.

Have fun!
